A broad class of antimicrobial fabrics result from graft copolymerization of a functionalized vinyl monomer onto a base fabric followed by reaction of the functional group of the graft copolymer, or some derivative thereof, with another functional group of an antimicrobial reagent with formation of a covalent bond. When electron beam irradiation is used to effect graft copolymerization virtually any organic fabric may be used. The multiplicity of functional groups on the graft copolymer also makes possible reaction with several different antimicrobials to afford a broad spectrum antimicrobial fabric.

Antimicrobial fabrics utilizing graft copolymers

Corrosion and scale-inhibiting compositions which are useful in recirculating aqueous systems comprise a mixture of a phosphate compound, a phosphonate compound comprising 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid or nitrilotris(methylene)triphosphonic acid, an aryl triazole, and a salt of a metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, tungsten and chromium. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the phosphate compound is present in a weight percent ratio in the range of from about 2.5:1 to about 4:1 weight percent per weight percent of the metal salt. An example of an effective anti-corrosion composition comprises a mixture of sodium tripolyphosphate, 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid, benzotriazole and sodium molybdate, said composition being present in an amount of from about 5 to about 5,000 ppm.

Ozone, which may be an irritating factor present in the atmosphere, may be removed therefrom by utilizing, as a filter material, in masks a material comprising at least one metal or metal oxide selected from Group VIII of the Periodic Table, a carbonaceous pyropolymer or combinations thereof composited on a solid support such as an alumina.

The use of a solution in a catalyst regeneration zone to increase the CO.sub.2 /CO ratio of the flue gas produced in the regeneration zone comprising a noble-metal CO oxidation promoter and a solvent comprising a selected saturated aliphatic alcohol.
