A closure for a cylindrically shaped ice cream carton or the like includes a unitary circular shaped plastic lid provided with a depending skirt portion. The top surface of the lid includes an upwardly and inwardly extending concentric bead inwardly tapered on its outer surface to enhance retaining a plurality of similar lids in stacked relation. The bead rigidifies the lid, enhances nested stacking of lid-carton assemblies and provides a locking and protective recess for labels containing printed indicia. The skirt of the lid includes a lower outwardly tapered inner surface portion for mating with the outer surface of the bead to enhance nested stacking of the lids and to enable the lid to be grasped and readily removed from tight fitting engagement with an ice cream carton. An upper, inner annular recessed portion of the lid skirt accommodates expansion of the ice cream carton without the lid popping off the carton. The plastic injection gate is recessed in the top surface of the lid to protect the label and the base of a carton stacked thereon.

Round ice cream carton lid

A lid insert is provided for releasable connection to a plastic lid having a subtantially flat top surface and an upwardly and inwardly projecting peripheral bead disposed above and spaced from the top surface of the lid. The lid insert is made of paperboard material having a planar configuration generally corresponding to the configuration of the flat top surface of the lid. The periphery of the planar lid insert includes a plurality of alternating indents and nodes. The area defined by the outermost points of the insert is greater than the area defined by the upwardly and inwardly projecting bead. This peripheral configuration of alternating nodes and indents facilitates the initial placement of the insert on the lid and enables the insert to compensate for the different expansion characteristics of the lid and the lid insert.

Scalloped paperboard insert for use with plastic lid

A multi-piece, tub shaped paperboard container having a circular opening in the top thereof is provided with a multi-piece, reinforced rim coated with a layer of meltable plastic and is assembled by appying heat to overlapping seams in order to melt the plastic coating and thereby seal the seams. Heat is applied evenly around the entire periphery of the rim by a 2-piece, annularly shaped, heated collar which may be selectively shifted into conforming engagement with the container. The even application of heat around the entire periphery of the rim equalizes the surface tension of the plastic coating during melting thereof to avoid deformation of the rim during the heat sealing process.

Apparatus for heat sealing round containers

A multi-piece, tub shaped paperboard container having a circular opening in the top thereof is provided with a multi-piece, reinforced rim coated with a layer of meltable plastic and is assembled by applying heat to overlapping seams in order to melt the plastic coating and thereby seal the seams. Heat is applied evenly around the entire periphery of the rim by a 2-piece, annularly shaped, heated collar which may be selectively shifted into conforming engagement with the container. The even application of heat around the entire periphery of the rim equalizes the surface tension of the plastic coating during melting thereof to avoid deformation of the rim during the heat sealing process.

Method for heat sealing round containers

A closure for a cylindrically shaped ice cream carton or the like includes a unitary circular shaped plastic lid provided with a depending skirt portion. The top surface of the lid includes an inverted V-shaped bead extending concentric with and inwardly spaced from the outer circumference of the lid to provide a bead for retaining a plurality of similar lids in stacked relation, precluding them from slipping inwardly relative to each other. The top surface of the lid also includes a depressed centrally located area, which rigidifies the lid and provides a recess for labels containing printed indicia. The skirt of the lid includes a bottom, outwardly flared portion enabling the lid to be grasped and readily removed from tight fitting engagement with an ice cream carton and an upper, recessed portion to accommodate expansion of the ice cream carton without the lid popping off the carton.

A container for packaging frozen food in which the food can be reheated including a paperboard tray having upstanding side walls and horizontal flanges and an upright central divider wall forming separate food compartments in the tray. The container is formed from a planar die-cut blank in which the central divider wall is formed by folding adjacent rectangular panels on the blank into abutting, back-to-back relation and the side walls are one piece and are foldably connected to adjacent die-cut portions of the blank so that when the divider wall is erected, the side walls are continguous to each other about the periphery of the tray. A pre-formed, semi-rigid blister of thermoformable plastic material is used in combination with the tray to provide a leakproof liner.

Divided food container

A container for packaging frozen food in which the food can be reheated including a paperboard tray having upstanding side walls and horizontal flanges and an upright central divider wall forming separate food compartments in the tray. Each compartment can be subdivided by pivoting a panel cut from the base of the tray transversely of the compartment to an upright position and locking the panel to the central divider wall. A pre-formed, semi-rigid blister of thermoformable plastic material is combined with the paperboard tray to provide a leak proof container.

A hermetically sealed carton of the type having a generally rectangular cross-section with four side walls, a bottom closure and a top closure including a vertical fin formed by a face-to-face seal of the outer portions of two opposed top closure flaps integrally formed with and hingedly attached to opposed side walls and triangular folds integrally formed with and hingedly attached to the other opposed side walls, with the improvement comprising means joining said fin portions only at the base thereof in a face-to-face relationship and scorelines placed in said fin portions such that when an upward pressure is applied to one of said triangular folds of said top closure, said fin portions separate at said scorelines above said joining means to allow easy access for separating said fin portions.

Hermetic sealed carton

A paperboard carton is provided with an upper and lower continuous thermoplastic liner adhesively connected in spaced relation to the walls of the carton to form with the walls, a pouch for the contents of the carton. The pouch eliminates the need of a separate foil, glassine, plastic or like receptacle within the interior of the carton to preclude the contents from sifting through the walls and to provide an effective seal once the carton is opened, so as to maintain the carton contents, such as food, fresh.

A hinged pour spout for the upper corner of a rectangular paperboard carton which is formed integrally with the blank and can be reinserted to close the opening after use.

A novel package for containing and dispensing moistened tissues which are arranged in a folded stacked array, including a film wrapper surrounding the stack of tissues and sealed on the ends with a longitudinal overlap of the edges on the top of the stack which allows access for removal of the tissues. This overlapping edge is sealed initially with an adhesive strip which is removable and the entire stack and wrapper are placed within a paperboard carton with a removable section in the top panel which allows access to the strip and overlapping edge to facilitate removal of the tissues. The package further includes means for retaining the film wrapper within the carton as the tissues are removed so that it does not pull out through the opening in the carton.
