Systems and methods are provided for illumination of the periorbital exterior of the eye and the interior of the eye with a non-invasive (or non-penetrating), trans-corneal, trans-conjunctival, trans-scleral, non-incandescent, and/or low-temperature light source. In some examples a ring structure is configured to sit on a surface area of an eye, the ring structure having a top surface and a bottom surface, wherein the bottom surface is configured to touch the eye. A plurality of light-emitting elements is configured in the ring structure and a plurality of apertures is configured on the bottom surface of the ring structure, wherein the plurality of light-emitting elements is aligned with the plurality of apertures. A signal carrier runs along at least a portion of the ring structure, the signal carrier having one end configured to connect to a signal source and receive at least one of light and electricity from the signal source, and one or more opposite ends respectively coupled with the plurality of light-emitting elements.

Systems and methods for combined periocular direct-illumination and trans-conjunctival and trans-scleral retro-illumination during ophthalmic surgery

In some examples, a speculum includes a first arm having one or more blades located at an end of the first arm and a second arm having one or more blades located at an end of the second arm, a set of light-emitting elements on the one or more blades, and a signal carrier running along at least a portion of the first and second arms and having one end configured to connect to a signal source to receive light and/or electricity and one or more opposite ends respectively coupled with the set of light-emitting elements, the signal carrier being configured to transmit the light and/or electricity from the signal source to the set of light-emitting elements.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for applying an adhesive film to the sole of shoes. Application of a portion of the adhesive film can be performed by receiving a shoe on top of the adhesive film, which in turn is above a plate and compressible pins. Upon receiving the shoe, the plate is raised or lowered, and the compressible pins mark the perimeter of the sole of the shoe. The adhesive film is cut in a sole-shaped pattern due to the height differentiation, resulting in a sole-shaped portion of the adhesive film being adhered to the sole of the shoe.

The presently disclosed subject matter relates to methods of administering an effective amount of dexmedetomidine to a pediatric patient in order to reduce the incidence of neurological damage. More particularly, the presently disclosed subject matter relates to methods of providing sedation or analgesia to a pediatric patient by administering a dexmedetomidine infusion and optionally a loading dose. The dexmedetomidine can be administered before, during, or after surgery.
