A valve module stroke detection system includes an adhesive valve module having a reciprocating valve pin. The pin reciprocates in a first direction by application of a compressed gas on one side of a piston and reciprocates in a second opposite direction. The reciprocating pin has a portion in an adhesive flowpath. A sensed element is positioned on the valve pin outside of the adhesive flow path. A sensor is positioned outside of the adhesive flow path. The sensor cooperates with the sensed element and generates a movement signal upon sensing a movement of the valve pin and generates a timing signal upon of the movement of the valve pin. A processor processes the movement signal and the timing signal and a recording medium records the movement signal and the timing signal.

Valve module stroke detection

A nozzle includes a back plate having a first inlet passage and a first discharge opening at one end of the first inlet passage, a front plate and a plurality of nozzle plates secured between the back plate and the front plate. The plurality of nozzle plates includes a first plenum plate, a second plenum plate and a discharge plate. The first plenum plate has a first plenum, the second plenum plate has a second plenum and a second plenum projection extending into the second plenum, and the discharge plate is disposed between the first plenum plate and the second plenum plate and has one or more orifices. The first plenum is disposed in fluid communication with the first inlet passage and is configured to receive a first fluid from the first inlet passage via the first discharge opening. The one or more orifices are disposed in fluid communication with the first plenum and are configured to receive the first fluid from the first plenum. The one or more orifices each include an orifice opening at an edge of the discharge plate configured to discharge the first fluid.

Nozzle for discharging one or more fluids

A piston monitoring assembly includes a magnetic body coupled to a piston that is configured to move in opposite directions during a piston stroke to dispense a fluid, a magnetic sensor configured to output signals representative of a magnetic field generated by the magnetic body, and a controller configured to examine the signals output by the magnetic sensor and to determine whether the piston is moving far enough to ensure that the fluid is being dispensed during a first movement of the piston in the piston stroke and that the fluid is prevented from being dispensed during a second movement of the piston in the piston stroke.

Piston monitoring assembly

A fluid application device having a flow diverter is provided. The fluid application device includes an applicator head having an internally formed manifold having a fluid input conduit, two or more fluid output conduits and a chamber disposed between the input conduit and the two or more output conduits. An external attachment surface is formed on the applicator head and is configured to have two or more nozzles selectively and removably secured thereto. A flow diverter is removably disposed in the chamber and includes a plug having two or more channels, each channel in fluid communication with the fluid input conduit and a respective fluid output conduit of the two or more output conduits. The fluid input conduit is configured to receive a fluid from a supply source and the two or more fluid output conduits are configured to discharge the fluid from the applicator head to respective nozzles.

Flow diverter in fluid application device

A fluid application device includes an applicator head, a first fluid passageway extending in the applicator head, a second fluid passageway extending in the applicator head, a plurality of metering devices connected to the applicator head. A first metering device of the plurality of metering devices is configured to meter a fluid to the first fluid passageway and a second metering device of the plurality of metering devices is configured to meter the fluid to the second fluid passageway. The device further includes a plurality of valve modules, each valve module actuatable between an open condition and a closed condition to control flow of the fluid and a nozzle having one or more discharge orifices. At least one orifice of the one or more discharge orifices is positioned downstream from the first passageway and the second passageway to receive the material from both the first and second fluid passageways.

Variable volume strand coating apparatus and method

A fluid application device includes an applicator head and a nozzle assembly fluidically coupled to the applicator head. The nozzle assembly includes a first conduit configured to receive a first fluid from the applicator head, the first conduit having a first inlet configured to receive the first fluid and a flow-distributing channel downstream from, and in fluid communication with the fluid inlet, the flow-distributing channel configured to direct the first fluid in a lateral direction. The nozzle assembly further includes an application conduit having a first fluid receiving section configured to receive the first fluid from the flow-distributing channel, and an orifice fluidically connected to the application conduit, the orifice configured to discharge the first fluid for application onto a strand of material.

A fluid application device includes one or more applicator heads. each applicator head includes a service block configured to receive a fluid from a fluid supply source, a manifold secured to the service block and configured to receive the fluid from the service block, the manifold having a seat, a module secured to the manifold at the seat, the module including a valve configured to selectively control flow of the fluid in the manifold, and a nozzle having a first configuration removably securable to the manifold, the nozzle configured to receive the fluid from the manifold, the nozzle having a first interface for interfacing with the manifold.

A fluid application device having a contact nozzle assembly with a fluidic oscillator is provided. The fluid application device includes an applicator head and a nozzle assembly. The nozzle assembly includes a first conduit configured to receive a first fluid from the applicator head, a second conduit configured to receive a second fluid from the applicator head and an application conduit including a receptacle and first and second branches. The receptacle is fluidically connected with the first conduit and configured to receive the first fluid. The first and second branches are fluidically connected to the second conduit and receptacle and are configured to receive the second fluid. The nozzle assembly further includes an orifice fluidically connected to the application conduit and configured to discharge the first fluid for application onto a strand of material, and a guide slot extending from the orifice and configured to receive the strand of material.

A nozzle assembly for applying a fluid on a substrate includes a plurality of plates, a first fluid conduit having a first inlet configured and a first discharge orifice configured to discharge a first fluid generally in a first direction, and a second fluid conduit having a second inlet, a second discharge orifice configured to discharge a second fluid generally in a second direction intersecting the first direction and a third discharge orifice. The second fluid acts on the first fluid at the first discharge orifice. A method of applying the fluid on the substrate includes continuously feeding the substrate by the nozzle assembly, discharging, in the first direction, the first fluid from the first discharge orifice onto the substrate, discharging, in the second direction, the second fluid from the second discharge orifice, and discharging, generally in the first direction, the second fluid from the third orifice.

High speed intermittent barrier nozzle

A fluid application device, strand engagement device, and method of controlling the same are provided. The fluid application device includes an applicator head and a nozzle assembly. The nozzle assembly includes a guide slot configured to receive a strand of material and an orifice configured to discharge a first fluid on to the strand. The strand engagement device is secured to the applicator head and includes an actuating assembly and an engagement arm connected to the actuating assembly. The engagement arm is configured to engage the strand and move between a first position and a second position in response to actuation of the actuating assembly. A fluid application device, a nozzle assembly and a method of applying a fluid onto a strand of material provided. The fluid application device includes an applicator head and a nozzle assembly. The nozzle assembly includes a guide slot for receiving a strand of material. The nozzle assembly further includes an orifice, spaced from the guide slot, configured to discharge a first fluid to onto the strand, and at least one outlet, adjacent to the orifice, for discharging a second fluid to act on the first fluid. The method includes positioning the strand at the closed end of the guide slot so that the strand is spaced a predetermined distance from the orifice, feeding the strand through the guide slot at a predetermined speed, applying the first fluid onto the strand from the orifice and discharging the second fluid from the at least one outlet.

A laminated nozzle assembly includes a first end plate having first and second fluid inlets, a second end plate, and a plurality of nozzle plates positioned between the first and second end plates. A first fluid conduit is fluidically connected to the first fluid inlet. The first fluid conduit has a reservoir and one or more first openings. A second fluid conduit is fluidically connected to the second fluid inlet. The second fluid conduit has an inlet channel, a connecting channel and one or more second openings. An orifice assembly includes a first orifice fluidically connected to the first opening and a second orifice fluidically connected to the second opening. The first and second orifices are disposed in the same plate of the plurality of nozzle plates and are coplanar.

A fluid application device having a modular nozzle assembly is provided. The fluid application device includes an applicator head and a modular nozzle assembly fluidly coupled thereto. The modular nozzle assembly includes at least one guide slot configured to receive a strand of material, at least one orifice configured to discharge a first fluid onto a respective strand of material, and at least one securing opening extending through the modular nozzle assembly. Each securing opening is configured to receive a releasable securing element. The modular nozzle assembly may be a contact nozzle assembly or a non-contact nozzle assembly, and include fluid or air assist for altering a flow of the first fluid. The modular nozzle assembly may be selectively removed from and secured to the fluid application device so that the modular nozzle assembly may be selectively switched between the contact nozzle assembly and the non-contact nozzle assembly.
