A binder assembly having a backing, which may be the spine or cover, with a prong-carrying plate or plates secured to the backing by means of the prongs. Upstanding rivets secure a support means to the plates. The support means may support a ring binder mechanism, a binder clamp mechanism or other binder mechanism. The support means is secured to the assembly by deforming the heads of the rivets. The rivets and plates may be secured together by assembly and swaging. Spacer elements may be positioned between the plate or plates and the arcuate casing of a ring binder mechanism.

A loose-leaf binder having a casing and prong-carrying spring plates and having a mechanism for readily locking and unlocking the prongs through use of a trigger including pivot projections for pivoting on and in plate apertures. Locking is accomplished by lever lugs engaging casing blisters.

A multi-element product and the method of making it which product is held together by a rivet. The product includes a hard layer adjacent a compressible soft layer to form a composite. A hole in the hard layer receives an anvil which is urged into the compressible layer. The rivet, which may be carried to its drivable position by a projection, is driven against the anvil to deform the rivet end.

Concealed rivet element and setting method for ring binder construction

The invention provides a device for insertion into the ends of hanging bars of file folder systems to reduce the friction and noise when those hanging bars are slid along the guide rails of filing cabinets. The device fits into the ends of the hanging bars and protrudes through the top edge of the hanging bars with pointed projections to inhibit the accidental withdrawal or dislodgement of the device from the hanger bar ends.
