A stairway wheelchair lift includes a stationary motor drive unit, a rail assembly extending along the stairway and a mobile platform movable along the rail. A flexible drive member, such as a chain or cable, within the rail assembly, is driven by the motor drive unit and is connected to the mobile platform to move the platform in either direction along the rail. The mobile platform is adapted to support and transport a wheelchair-bound passenger during use, and to fold upwardly out of the way of the stairway when the lift is not in use. An automatically actuated brake mechanism stops further movement of the mobile platform when the speed of the platform relative to the rail exceeds a predetermined threshold, and a plurality of safety sensing switches prevent operation of the lift in the presence of obstructions along the stairway or other unsafe conditions.

Stairway wheelchair lift

A leak detection system and a method of detecting leaks are disclosed for detecting a leak in a system, including a pump, a dispenser, a conduit communicating the pump and the dispenser, and a valve in the conduit. The valve includes an electronic flow measurement device for detecting leaks in the system downstream of the device. The system may be operated by a control circuitry, which indicates a predetermined flow of fluid indicating a leak. The present invention is also directed to a method of detecting a leak in a system having a fluid pump, a dispenser, a conduit connecting the pump and the dispenser, a valve in the conduit, and an electronic flow detection system in the valve. The valve is provided with an orifice communicating the conduit with the electronic flow detection system. The method includes the steps of activating the pump and opening the dispenser to dispense a fluid, and then closing the dispenser while continuing the activation of the pump thereby increasing fluid pressure in the conduit. The increase in fluid pressure causes the valve to close, thus isolating the pump from the dispenser except for the orifice in the valve. The electronic fluid detection system senses the flow of fluid through the orifice.

Leak detector

An automated bag toss game, having a game board surface, with holes formed therein. Items are provided for being tossed toward and into the holes, and the game automatically keeps track of and displays running scores based on which holes the bags fall into. In some embodiments the items are bags containing pellets, 'bean bags', and at least some of the pellets have magnetic properties. A wire coil is provided for each hole, disposed beneath the surface, for sensing the passage of the bag into one of the holes and producing a signal corresponding to that hole. An electronic circuit is provided for calculating and displaying a score based upon those signals. The electronic circuit includes a portion for a display for showing the current scores, a display driver portion for controlling the display, and a processor for receiving a signal from the receiving portion corresponding to a predetermined score value of holes in the game board and producing a signal for causing the display driver to show at least a cumulative score corresponding to the holes into which the bags have fallen. One such embodiment is based on the coils not being energized, and the bags containing magnetic pellets. A second embodiment is based on the coils being continually energized with a selected frequency signal, and the bags containing ferromagnetic pellets. A third embodiment is based on a light source and a light sensor being placed under the holes, rather than a wire coil, resulting in the detection of the thrown item being light-activated, rather than magnetically activated.

Electronic bag toss game with light-activated detection

An automated bag toss game, having a game board surface, with a plurality of holes formed therein. Bags are provided, each containing pellets, at least some of those pellets having magnetic properties. A wire coil is provided for each hole and disposed beneath the game board surface, for sensing the passage of the bag into one of the holes and producing a signal corresponding to that hole. An electronic circuit is provided for receiving the signal and calculating and displaying a score based upon that hole. One embodiment of the electronic circuit includes a portion for receiving the signal from the coil and for ensuring that the signal from the coil was not a false signal, a display for showing the current scores, a display driver portion for controlling the display, and a processor for receiving a signal from the receiving portion corresponding to a predetermined hierarchy of holes in the game board and producing a signal for causing the display driver to show a score corresponding to the hole into which the bag fell. This embodiment is based on the coils not being energized, and the bags containing magnetic pellets. A second embodiment includes all of the above except for a different circuit portion for receiving the signal. This second embodiment is based on the coils being continually energized with a selected frequency signal, and the bags containing ferromagnetic pellets.

Electronic bag toss game

A stairway wheelchair lift includes a stationary motor drive unit, a mobile platform movable along a stairway and a user interface for receiving user-generated input commands. The mobile platform communicates with the motor drive unit through a continuously maintained broadbeam infrared communications link, while the motor drive unit communicates with the mobile platform through an intermittently established short range infrared link. The user interface communicates with the motor drive through a hard wired four conductor communicates link. The use of infrared communications links, together with the four conductor hard wired link, reduces overall system wiring, enhances ease of installation and improves overall system flexibility and economy. Microprocessor based micro-controllers, within the motor drive unit, the mobile platform and the user interface, permit system operation to be tailored in accordance with the operating constraints and requirements imposed by a particular stairway configuration.

Electrical control system for stairway wheelchair lift

A solid-state electronic control system for an electric motor which drives a pipe bending machine. A machine operator's hand switch acts through a logic system to cause the motor to run in either direction, and negates control conflicts. The logic system controls an SCR bridge system to select the direction of D.C. energization of the motor for forward or reverse drive. This bridge system is supplied from A.C. mains through a bridge rectifier comprising three diodes and one SCR. When motor drive is called for, this SCR is made conducting to provide full-wave rectification. When motor drive is terminated, this SCR is turned off so that the rectifier becomes half-wave, which facilitates turn-off of the motor reversing SCR's. A dynamic brake for the motor is turned on by a triac when motor energization is shut off.

Electric motor control for a pipe bender

A control circuit is disclosed suitable for use with a toaster or other food browning device which utilizes a radiant energy source to brown food. A light sensitive variable resistor, or photocell, is optically coupled to light reflected from the food being browned in the device. A voltage generated by a voltage divider including the light sensitive resistor therein is compared with a preselectable voltage generated by a second voltage divider to determine whether the heat source should be turned on or off. Suitable solid state control circuitry is provided to ensure that a start-up delay is provided at the beginning of each browning cycle and to reset the circuit for future operation when the desired browning of the food is achieved.
