Processes are provided for using employing lower activity hydrodesulfurization catalysts while achieving a desired product sulfur content. After determining effective reaction conditions for hydrodesulfurization using a reference catalyst system, an upstream portion of the catalyst system can be replaced with a lower activity upstream portion. The process allows tailored product sulfur levels to be achieved using reaction conditions similar to those for the reference catalyst system.

Stacking of low activity or regenerated catalyst above higher activity catalyst

Processes are provided for producing a diesel fuel product having a sulfur content of 15 wppm or less (e.g., 10 wppm or less) from feed sources that include a biocomponent feedstock. The biocomponent feedstock can be initially co-processed with a mineral feed in a fluidized bed stage, such as an ebullating bed processing stage. Ebullating bed processing can mitigate the impact of the biocomponent feed on other hydrotreatment aspects of a diesel boiling range feed. Challenged biocomponent feeds can be handled by introducing the biocomponent feed into the ebullating bed reactor in a manner that reduces the fouling impact of the feed.

Ebullating bed methods for treatment of biocomponent feedstocks

This invention relates to a catalyst and method for hydrodesulfurizing naphtha. More particularly, a Co/Mo metal hydrogenation component is loaded on a high temperature alumina support in the presence of a dispersion aid to produce a catalyst that is then used for hydrodesulfurizing naphtha. The high temperature alumina support has a defined surface area that minimizes olefin saturation.

Selective catalysts having high temperature alumina supports for naphtha hydrodesulfurization

A biocomponent feedstock can be hydroprocessed using a hydrogen-containing refinery as a source of hydrogen gas. A relatively low cost catalyst, such as a water gas shift catalyst and/or spent hydrotreating catalyst, can be used as a hydrogenation catalyst for the process. The hydroprocessing can allow for olefin saturation and/or deoxygenation of the biocomponent feed by using a relatively low value refinery stream, e.g., containing from about 20 mol % to about 60 mol % hydrogen.

Hydroprocessing of biocomponent feedstocks with low purity hydrogen-containing streams

A process for the selective hydrodesulfurization of olefinic naphtha streams containing a substantial amount of organically-bound sulfur and olefins. The olefinic naphtha stream is selectively desulfurized in a hydrodesulfurization reaction stage. The hydrodesulfurized effluent stream is separated into a light and heavy liquid fraction and the heavier fraction is further processed in a mercaptan destruction reaction stage to reduce the content of mercaptan sulfur in the final product.

Selective hydrodesulfurization and mercaptan decomposition process with interstage separation

A process for hydroprocessing a distillate stream to produce a stream exceptionally low in sulfur, with total aromatics and polynuclear aromatics being moderately reduced. A distillate stream is hydrodesulfurized in a first hydrodesulfurization stage. The product stream thereof is passed to a first separation stage wherein a vapor phase product stream and a liquid product stream are produced. The liquid phase product stream is passed to a second hydrodesulfurization stage and the product stream thereof is passed to a second separation stage wherein a vapor phase product stream and a liquid product stream low in sulfur are produced. At least a portion of the vapor product stream from said second separation stage can be cascaded to the first hydrodesulfurization stage.

Production of low sulfur distillates

Naphtha hydrodesulfurization selectivity is increased by reducing the amount of CO(CO plus &#xbd; CO) in the hydrodesulfurization reaction zone to less than 100 vppm. While this is useful for non-selective hydrodesulfurization, it is particularly useful for selectively desulfurizing an olefin-containing naphtha without octane loss due to olefin saturation by hydrogenation. The COreduction is achieved by removing COfrom the treat gas before it is passed into the reaction zone.

Low CO for increased naphtha desulfurization

A process for the selective hydrodesulfurization of olefinic naphtha streams containing a substantial amount of organically-bound sulfur and olefins. The olefinic naphtha stream is selectively desulfurized in a first hydrodesulfurization stage. The effluent stream from this first stage is sent to a separation zone wherein a lower boiling naphtha stream and a higher boiling naphtha stream are produced. The lower boiling naphtha stream is sent through at least two more separation zones, each at a lower temperature than the preceding separation stage. The higher boiling naphtha stream, which contains most of the sulfur moieties, is passed to a second hydrodesulfurization stage wherein at least a fraction of the sulfur moieties are removed.

Two-stage hydrodesulfurization of cracked naphtha streams with light naphtha bypass or removal

A process for the selective hydrodesulfurization of naphtha streams containing a substantial amount of olefins and organically bound sulfur. The naphtha stream is selectively hydrodesulfurized by passing it through a first reaction zone containing a bed of a first hydrodesulfurization catalyst, then passing the resulting product stream through a second reaction zone containing a bed of a second hydrodesulfurization catalyst, which second hydrodesulfurization catalyst contains a lower level of catalytic metals than the first hydrodesulfurization catalyst.

Multi-stage hydrodesulfurization of cracked naphtha streams with a stacked bed reactor

A distillate fuel feed is hydrotreated to remove heteroatoms and then separated into light and heavy hydrotreated fractions, with the heavy fraction catalytically dewaxed to improve low temperature properties. The hydrotreating and dewaxing are conducted in separate stages, which may be in the same reactor vessel. Fresh hydrogen may be passed into the dewaxing stage, with the dewaxing stage gaseous effluent then passed into the hydrotreating stage to provide hydrogen for the hydrotreating. Existing hydrotreating reaction vessels and facilities may be retrofitted to add one or more dewaxing stages.

Multistage removal of heteroatoms and wax from distillate fuel

A two stage hydrodesulfurizing process for producing low sulfur distillates. A distillate boiling range feedstock containing in excess of about 3,000 wppm sulfur is hydrodesulfurized in a first hydrodesulfurizing stage containing one or more reaction zones in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrodesulfurizing catalyst. The liquid product stream thereof is passed to a first separation stage wherein a vapor phase product stream and a liquid product stream are produced. The liquid product stream, which has a substantially lower sulfur and nitrogen content then the original feedstream is passed to a second hydrodesulfurizing stage also containing one or more reaction zones where it is reacted in the presence of hydrogen and a second hydrodesulfurizing catalyst at hydrodesulfurizing conditions. The catalyst in any one or more reaction zones is a bulk multimetallic catalyst comprised of at least one Group VIII non-noble metal and at least two Group VIB metals.

Two stage process for hydrodesulfurizing distillates using bulk multimetallic catalyst

A distillate fuel composition boiling in the range of about 190&#xb0; C. to 400&#xb0; C. with a T10 point greater than 205&#xb0; C., and having a sulfur level of less than about 100 wppm, a total aromatics content of about 15 to 35 wt. %, a polynuclear aromatics content of less than about 3 wt. %, wherein the ratio of total aromatics to polynuclear aromatics is greater than about 11.

Low sulfur distillate fuels

A process for hydroprocessing a hydrotreated liquid distillate stream to produce a stream exceptionally low in sulfur as well as aromatics. A hydrotreated distillate stream is further hydrotreated in a co-current reaction zone wherein the reaction product is passed to a separation drum wherein a vapor product is collected overhead and a liquid product is passed to a aromatics saturation zone countercurrent to the flow of hydrogen treat gas.
