A fiber cable may be neatly and efficiently cut if the razor edge is held in a fixed position while the cable is pulled along a cutting channel. The cable may be first cut to remove the outer layer prior to cutting further layers. One example may have a double cable splitting device with two sets of channels that include razors in each of the channels which locks in to position to secure the cable and razor against the cable during a cutting procedure.

One example may have a cable splitting device with a number of channels that include a razor edge in each of the channels and a top portion of the device providing a first half to each of the channels, and a bottom portion providing a second half to each of the channels.

A speed wrench is disclosed having at least one recessive portion inside a speed wrench head of the speed wrench, and at least one engaging portion inside the speed wrench head. The speed wrench also has at least one angled portion providing an angled offset measured from a planar surface that the speed wrench is resting on to the center axis of the speed wrench head. The speed wrench may further be double-sided and may be an open-ended wrench.

A battery-powered impact wire insertion tool that employs an electric motor to implement the impacting function. The electric motor is provided with suitable gearing that reduces its speed but increases its torque. An activator mechanism is employed to convert multiple revolutions of the motor shaft into a stored compressive force that after a predetermined number of shaft revolutions is triggered to release the compressive force to drive a hammer against an insertion blade mounted in the tool. The activator mechanism comprises axially-aligned cylindrical end cams with generally complementary surfaces that upon rotation of a driven cam axially extends a follower cam compressing a power compression spring, and upon encountering a cam lobe the driven and follower cams abruptly come together releasing the spring delivering the desired impact to the blade.

A tool capable of wrapping and unwrapping wires on terminals is provided with a quick-release mechanism to allow rapid and simple replacements of bits and sleeves used for the wrapping and unwrapping functions. This feature uses a bit driver comprising a camming surface that cooperates with a collet having a tapered split end for holding the bit and sleeve loosely or a gripping relationship for driving the bit. A novel bit/sleeve combination is capable of wrapping wires on terminals when rotated in one direction and unwrapping wires from terminals when rotated in the opposite direction. The tool also features a motor reversing switch for allowing the tool to be used both for wrapping and for unwrapping wires, with the reversing switch located in a protected region at the rear of the tool to prevent accidental activation. The same tool housing can also be used for fabricating both battery operated as well as AC operated tools.
