An ambulatory infusion and/or KVO (keep vein open) system (12, 18) has a gas-pressurized bladder arrangement (12) including a gas barrier associated therewith. The system includes a flexible bag of solution (13) inserted in a sleeve portion (36) of the bladder arrangement (12). Internal gas pressure which is developed within the bladder arrangement by a selectively initiated chemical reaction exerts a continuing pressure against the solution bag (13) to cause the solution to flow therefrom. A tubing set (18) of the system includes a flow restrictor (24) which is sized for minimal flow rates for indwelling catheter patency maintenance.

Ambulatory energized container system

A solution pumping system is disclosed which is embodied as a disposable pump cassette including a self-contained positive displacement pump, and an associated pump driver including a reciprocable pump piston for driving the pump of the cassette. This system is particularly suited for use in compounding in preparation of parenteral solutions for administration to patients. In order to promote high liquid output with minimum peak pumping pressures, the controls of the system operate to provide a 'square' pumping pressure waveform, thus optimizing performance of the system. This is achieved by selectively varying the velocity of the pump piston during its operation.

Solution pumping for maximizing output while minimizing uneven pumping

A suction drainage control system that reduces an operator's exposure to infectious waste by permitting waste-treating material to be dispersed into a sealed chamber in which the infectious waste is contained. The sealed chamber includes a cover with a flexible liner sealed to and suspended therefrom. A reservoir having a closure is provided inside the sealed chamber for storing the waste-treating material, which reservoir is opened by manipulating the flexible liner to remove the closure.

Suction drainage infection control system

A suction drainage control system that reduces an operator's exposure to infectious waste by permitting waste-treating material to be dispersed into a sealed chamber in which the infectious waste is contained. The sealed chamber includes a cover with a flexible liner sealed to and suspended therefrom. A freely movable reservoir is provided inside the sealed chamber for storing the waste-treating material, which reservoir is opened by manipulating the flexible liner to open the reservoir.

A drug infusion manifold that includes a housing defining a plurality of spaced apart fluid chambers that have a closed first end portion and an opposing second end portion. The second end portions of immediately adjacent chambers are in fluid communication through channels extending therebetween. A plurality of spaced apart fluid inlets are formed in the housing in fluid communication with a corresponding fluid chamber. A check valve means is provided in each fluid chamber for directing drugs and/or solutions from the inlets into the chamber and precluding fluid flow from the chamber. An outlet is formed in the housing in direct fluid communication with at least one of the chambers.

Automated drug infusion manifold

An article is disclosed which comprises fibrous material which has been chemically modified such that the material's cutability using ultrasonic energy becomes facile and the material can be cut into a predetermined shape using ultrasonic energy. The article may additionally comprise fibrous material disposed between first and second fusible materials, wherein at least one of the fusible materials includes means for defining a selected line of cut, and ultrasonic energy directed through the materials along the means for defining a selected line of cut will effect cutting of the fibrous material and fusion of the fusible materials.

Ultrasonically cut fibrous material

A drug infusion manifold for controlling the infusion of drugs and/or other solutions into an intravenous patient feed line. The manifold includes a housing defining an elongated in-line flow channel that communicates at one end with a carrier fluid inlet line and at the other end with the patient feed line. A plurality of spaced apart drug inlet openings are formed in the housing in communication with the flow channel. Each of the inlet openings is provided with a check valve assembly that includes a valve member defining an inlet socket portion and a valve stem portion that extends into the flow channel. The valve stem portion has a cylindrical side wall that defines an inlet passage that communicates with the socket portion. A plurality of lateral inlet ports extend through the side wall. An elastic sleeve member is received about the valve stem portion in covering relationship with the inlet ports. The valve stem portion is in-line with the flow of carrier fluid through the flow channel.

Drug infusion manifold

A suction drainage control system wherein waste-treating material is released into a sealed chamber. The chamber comprises of a cover with a flexible liner sealed to and suspended therefrom. A normally closed reservoir is provided on an underside of the cover for storing the waste-treating material therewithin as long as the reservoir remains closed. An externally operated actuator is provided on the cover for opening the reservoir to release the waste-treating material into the sealed chamber.

A diagnostic testing device is disclosed. The testing device includes a base member and a cover member which defines an opening for the reception of a liquid specimen. A distribution wheel delivers portions of the specimen to antibiotic units which are circumferentially spaced. Indicator units are in communication with the cover member. A delivery cylinder extends upwardly from each of the antibiotic units toward a respective one of the indicator units. Relative vertical movement between the delivery cylinder and the indicator unit places the cylinder and the indicator unit into an engaging relationship. A change in coloration at an indicator unit indicates a positive reaction.

Diagnostic testing device

A method for cutting fibrous materials using ultrasonic energy involves chemically modifying a fibrous material prior to the application of ultrasonic energy. Preferred fibrous materials include cellulose materials and its derivatives, such as, paper. Chemical modification includes oxidation or hydrolysis. Also disclosed is a test device made according to the method. The invention allows for the fusing of plastic and the simultaneous cutting of a chemically modified fibrous material along the line of fusion.

Method of ultrasonically cutting fibrous materials and device therefrom

Vial

A thin flexible fluid-tight cover of PVC is bonded to a rigid port of a diluent container which is to be subjected to heat sterilization. The cover includes an outer flange for bonding to a complementary surface around the port, and a removable section for spanning the port. The removable section includes a central flexible diaphragm portion and a cylindrical wall portion. The diaphragm portion has at least one annular convolution whereby the diaphragm section is axially expandable by flexing of the convolution. A tear line is provided in a frangible section which joins the cylindrical wall portion to the outer flange. The cylindrical wall portion of the cover is disposed adjacent the outer surfaces of an abutment wall on the port to provide stress relief against rupture of the tear line from stresses generated in the cover during sterilization. A narrow post element is located adjacent the wall portion for concentrating manual pulling forces from an attached pull ring to a limited segment of the tear line.

Container and closure construction

A plug is provided within a port in a flexible container. Extending from the port is a piece of flexible tubing which is used to connect with other tubing in a fluid system. Fluid is dispensed from the flexible container by grasping the end of the plug extending into the flexible container. The plug is then pulled into the interior of the container so that the opposite end of the plug which seals the flexible tubing extending from the port is unseated. The flexible tubing extending from the port is now open to the flow of fluid from the flexible container.

Flexible container

A unitary molded plastic cover for a container such as a medicament vial is disclosed in which a removable cap portion is attached by a severable tear strip. A pull ring is disposed around the cap portion and attached to the tear strip through torsion hinge sections which permit pivoting of the ring from its surrounding position to a raised access position for gripping and pulling to remove the tear strip and the cap.
