A head-mounted device includes an external facing sensor configured to generate a signal corresponding to a characteristic of an external environment. A controller is configured to determine that a quality of the signal is below a threshold value and take an action in response. Another embodiment includes a case for storing a head-mounted device that includes a cleaner coupled with a base or a lid of case. The cleaner is configured to clean a portion of the head-mounted device when the head-mounted device is inserted into and/or removed from the case.

A head-mountable display device includes a housing defining a front opening and a rear opening, a display screen disposed in the front opening, a display assembly disposed in the rear opening, a first securement strap coupled to the housing, the first securement strap including a first electronic component, a second securement strap coupled to the housing, the second securement strap including a second electronic component, and a securement band extending between and coupled to the first securement strap and the second securement strap.

An electronic device having a display assembly is disclosed. Several layers may combine to form the display assembly. For example, the display assembly may include a touch sensitive layer (or touch detection layer), a display layer that present visual information, and a force sensitive layer (or force detection layer). The display layer may include a bend or curve that allows a portion of the display layer to bend around the force sensitive layer. Also, the connectors (that provide electrical and mechanical connections) may be positioned at different locations of the layers. For example, the display layer may include a connector on a first edge region, and the force sensitive layer may include a connector on a second edge region that is perpendicular, or at least substantially perpendicular, to the first edge region. By positioning the connectors on perpendicular edge regions, the display assembly may reduce its footprint.

A head mountable device includes a front cover defining an external forward facing surface and a nasal bridge, a first rearward facing display, a second rearward facing display, a first forward facing camera, a second forward facing camera, and a controller electrically coupled to the first forward facing camera, the second forward facing camera, the first rearward facing display, and the second rearward facing display. The nasal bridge is disposed between the first forward facing camera and the second forward facing camera and the controller is configured to cause mixed reality video pass-through from the first forward facing camera to the first rearward facing display including a first image and from the second forward facing camera to the second rearward facing display including a second image.

The compressible material is connected to the housing and is configured for contact with the user. The support member is disposed in the compressible material. Sensor assemblies for electronic devices are described. According to some embodiments, the sensor assemblies include solid-state sensors, such as capacitive sensors, piezoelectric sensors or piezoresistive sensors. The sensor assemblies can include a number of features that provide a compact profile, making them well suited for integration into small spaces of electronic device enclosures. The sensor assemblies can also include features that isolate movement of various parts of the sensor assemblies, allowing for accurate detection of a sensing event. According to some embodiments, the sensor assemblies are coupled to haptic actuators, speaker, or both, which mimic the feel of a mechanical button and enhance a user's experience.

A head-mounted device can effectively manage heat while also managing noise output levels in a manner that preserves the user's desired experience with the head-mounted device. The head-mounted device can manage sound levels of a cooling system based on detected a sound level of ambient noise in a vicinity of the head-mounted device. For example, the head-mounted device can operate a fan at a speed that produces noise at a sound level that is low enough to be masked by the ambient noise perceived by the user. By further example, the sound level of a cooling system can be based on a sound level of a speaker of the head-mounted device providing audio to the user. By further example, other operational parameters of a cooling system can be controlled to manage noise at a sound level that is sufficiently low.

A scene camera system that includes two or more mirrors that reflect light from a respective portion of a field of view (FOV) in front of the system and two or more cameras that each capture the light reflected by a respective one of the two or more mirrors. By using the mirrors to reflect the light, the cameras' entrance pupils are imaged to a location closer to a user's eyes to thus achieve a more accurate representation of the perspective of the user.

The present disclosure describes techniques related to configuring display devices. For example, a method includes receiving sensor data corresponding to at least a portion of a face. The method further includes identifying, using the sensor data, a feature of the face. The method further includes identifying, based on the feature, a configuration parameter associated with the display device. The method further includes outputting the configuration parameter for changing a fit of the display device to the face.

Techniques related to configuring a display device

A head-mounted device may include a display system and an optical system in a housing. The display system may have displays that produce images. The optical system may have Fresnel lenses through which a user of the head-mounted device may view the images. The Fresnel lenses may have concentric rings with slope facets and draft facets angled parallel to the chief rays. Light scattering in the Fresnel lenses may be reduced by coating the draft facets with opaque masking material and/or by aligning concentric rings of the opaque masking material that are supported on a transparent substrate with the draft facets. A central portion of the Fresnel lens that is free of facets may be enlarged to reduce scattering. The Fresnel lenses may have wedge-shaped cross-sectional profiles and may have outer portions that are thicker than inner portions. Gradient-index material may be used in forming the Fresnel lenses.
