A display monitor chassis comprises user controls and a display screen. The display screen displays a first graphical user interface (GUI) that can be manipulated using at least one of the user controls to adjust the display monitor. The display screen is capable of displaying a second GUI that can be manipulated using at least one of the user controls to adjust an accessory communicably coupled to the display monitor chassis.

One aspect of the invention is an automatic configuration method. The method comprises monitoring a network for data sent by a server in response to a configuring notice, receiving the data, and automatically configuring a processing platform to the network based on the data. Another aspect of the invention is an automatic configuration system. The system comprises a processing platform and application logic operatively associated with the processing platform. The application is operable to monitor a network for data sent by a server in response to a configuring notice, receive the data, and automatically configure the processing platform to the network based on the data.

Automatic configuration system and method

A controller controls selection of rows of photosensors residing in a photosensor array having at least one row of photosensors with a first sensor size, and at least one row of photosensors with a second sensor size. In a first example embodiment, the controller may select each sensor in a double row of sensors for white light having a smaller area than the sensors in other rows. For the first embodiment, the native input sampling rate for luminance is greater than the native input sampling rate for color information. In a second example embodiment, for every band of wavelengths being sensed, the controller selects one of two rows of sensors, with one row having relatively small sensor areas and the other row having relatively large sensor areas. In the second example embodiment, the rows with relatively small sensor areas are used for high native input sampling rates, and the rows with relatively large sensor areas are used for high color accuracy.

In an image scanner, multiple exposures are used for each scan line, and only part of the pixels for each scan line are used for each exposure. For example, with two exposures, half the pixels may be used for the first exposure, and half for the second exposure. For each exposure, half of the charges are shifted out rapidly and discarded, without waiting for the A/D conversion time. As a result, for each exposure, the time required to empty the charge shift register is greatly reduced, reducing the thermal noise for all pixels.

Photosensor array using multiple exposures to reduce thermal noise

A multiple resolution sensing apparatus comprises first and second arrays of photosensor elements and an image processing system. The first array exhibits a first signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio and a first input sampling rate (ISR). The first array also is operative to generate color information, corresponding to an image, that comprises at least one of red, green and blue information. The second array exhibits a second S/N ratio lower than the first S/N ratio and a second ISR higher than the first ISR. The second array is operative to generate luminance information corresponding to the image. The image processing system is communicatively coupled to the first array and the second array and is operative to receive the color information from the first array and the luminace information from the second array. The image procesing system also is operative to generate pixel data corresponding to the image, with the pixel data comprising the color information from the first array and the luminance information from the second array. Other apparatuses also are provided.

The present invention is directed to a system and method which capture images by use of an optical detector. The system and method illuminate a scan region utilizing a bulb that emits light of greater intensity near its extremities than at its center to provide image light to an optical detector via an optical reduction component.

Apparatus for determining the best image from a dual resolution photo sensor

A method for dynamically determining and adjusting the color balance of the light strip along one edge of the scanned area and adjusting the gains of independently controlled red, green and blue channels of a CCD array. Alternatively, the gain of one color channel may be held constant and measured to determine the light intensity of the light source as the temperature of the light source varies. The power to the light is then changed to maintain the intensity of the light source within a predetermined range. The three color channels are then compared to a predetermined color balance. If the color balance is outside of a predetermined range, the other two color channels gains are varied in order to maintain the color balance between the three color channels.

Method and apparatus for dynamic white point adjustment

An image processing method for converting an input matrix into an output matrix including steps of calculating an increment value and a target value based upon the resolution of the input matrix and the resolution of the output matrix. As each picture element of the input matrix is received the increment value is added to the value of a counter. When the value of the counter is greater than the target value, the received picture element is placed into the output matrix and the target value is subtracted from the value of the counter.

Image processing method and apparatus

A document scanner provides compensation for sensitivity nonuniformity that may exist between the individual sensor cells of the sensor array that is used to sense light reflected from a document being scanned. Compensated is provided for both dark (i.e. unilluminated) sensitivity variation and light (i.e. illuminated) sensitivity variation that may exist in the individual sensor cells of the sensor array.

Method and apparatus for providing sensor compensation

A document scanner is disclosed wherein means are provided to dynamically compensate for any changes in document illumination intensity that may occur as a document is scanned. The compensation method and apparatus operates to measure the intensity of light that is reflected from a target area that borders an edge of the document being scanned. The target area is a narrow, elongated, area that extends in the scan direction. The target area is of a color to approximate the document's background area, i.e. the document's nonimage area. Since the target area is of a continuous and uniform color tone, any variation in the quantity of light that is reflected from the target area is caused by a variation in the intensity of illumination thereof by the scanning light source. The method and apparatus of the invention controls the scanning light source so as to maintain the light reflected from the target area at a substantially constant magnitude.
