A chromatography detection system can handle the flow from a chromatography column. The chromatography detection system has an injection valve and a detector for detecting emissions from a flowing sample. The injection valve has at least one loop and is adapted to connect to the chromatography column. The valve can (a) load the at least one loop independently of the chromatography column in a first mode, and (b) serially connect the least one loop between the chromatography column and the detector in a second mode. Thus, flow from the at least one loop to the detector is driven by eluate from the chromatography column.

Chromatography detection system and method

A continuous sample detector has a cell assembly with a spaced pair of sample cells. Each of these cells is mounted in a sample chamber and each is adapted to conduct a continuous sample flow. These sample cells are connected through a plurality of sample lines. The continuous sample detector also includes a sensor that is mounted and arranged proximate the cell assembly. Relative motion between the sensor and the cell assembly will enable the sensor to alternately detect radiation predominantly from a selected one of the cells. The sensor and the cells are positioned within the common housing to detect radiation with the sensor from predominantly a first one of the sample cells. The sample flow may at that time pass through the first one of the sample cells. The relative position of the sensor and the sample cells may then be changed within the common housing to detect radiation with the sensor from predominantly a second one of the sample cells. The sample flow may at this time pass through the second one of the sample cells, without disconnecting any of the plurality of sample lines.

Continuous sample detector with multiple cells

A continuous sample detector includes a sample chamber, a cell body and one or more standard sources of radiation. Mounted in the sample chamber, the cell body has a cell, a coil of transparent tubing through which the sample solution continuously passes during the measurement. The standard source of radiation is mounted adjacent to the cell body. The detector also includes a sensor mounted and arranged proximate the cell and the standard source to encounter relative reciprocation for allowing the sensor to alternately sense radiation of the cell and the standard source. The detector is operated by connecting sample lines to the cell body. The sensor and cell are then positioned to detect radiation from the cell with the sensor, while a sample flow is pumped through the cell. The system is calibrated by disposing the sensor and the standard source to detect radiation from the standard source with the sensor, without disconnecting the sample lines from the cell body. The sensor and the cell are repositioned to detect radiation from the cell with the sensor.

Continuous sample detector with standard

A liquid scintillation spectrometer comprises two PM detectors, a circuit for detecting prompt coincidences between the signals from the detectors and a circuit for detecting delayed coincidences. Counting means controlled by the coincidence circuits detect the excess of the occurrences of prompt coincidences over delayed coincidences and count that excess in real time.

A method of liquid scintillation counting utilizing a combustion step to overcome quenching effects comprises novel features of automatic sequential introduction of samples into a combustion zone and automatic sequential collection and delivery of combustion products into a counting zone.
