Mandible guard

An adapter assembly for attaching a circumaural device to a mounting interface on a helmet comprises a fastener element configured to releasably couple to the mounting interface. A pressure relief assembly coupled to the fastener element has a pivoting subassembly and an adjustment subassembly. The pivoting subassembly I pivotable about a pivot axis and has a range of travel between an upright position and an extended position. One or more attachment arms have a proximal end coupled to the pressure relief assembly and a distal end for attaching the circumaural device. The adjustment subassembly has a manually operable control portion to cause pivoting movement of the pivoting subassembly toward the upright position to decrease a pressure of an attached circumaural device on a wearer's head or toward the extended position to increase a pressure of an attached circumaural device on the wearer's head.

Adjustable helmet-mounted circumaural adaptor

A helmet assembly having a helmet, a mandible guard, and an accessory attachment system that is used to selectively attach and secure the mandible guard to the helmet is disclosed. In some embodiments, the mandible guard is arranged to be detached from a first side of the helmet while remaining secured to a second side of the helmet. In such embodiments, the mandible guard may be moved outwardly and away from a wearer as the mandible guard pivots around the accessory attachment system attached to the second side of the helmet.

A helmet mounting system for attaching an accessory device to a helmet includes one or more cables with a hook for removably engaging the brim of the helmet. Each cable has an end attached to a spool which is rotatable in a first direction for winding of the cable(s) around the spool and a second direction for unwinding the cable. A tensioning mechanism is coupled to the spool. In certain embodiments, one or more accessory devices are electrically coupled to a power and data management module for routing power, data and control signals to the one or more accessory devices. Accessory devices are interchangeable, providing a modular system that can be customized to meet mission requirements and accessory devices are removable and replaceable as mission requirements change.

Modular helmet system

A helmet accessory attachment member includes a finger-actuatable lock configured to secure an accessory attachment member mount to a helmet mount as part of securing an accessory such as a mandible guard to a helmet. The lock includes a pivot arm with a rotation axis that is parallel to the helmet surface, and also includes one or more blocking surfaces on the pivot arm to engage with grooves on the helmet mount. The lock may be positioned on a slidable insert of the accessory attachment member.

Strap buckles for headgear can be independently adjusted by single-handed operation while the headgear is worn. To tighten the straps, the wearer pulls a strap buckle toward the chin. The adjustment preferably involves a 1:1 length-adjustment ratio, such that the strap is shortened substantially by the amount the wearer pulls on the buckle.

Suspension systems for helmet assemblies provide enhanced stability and adjustability for installation in helmets across different platforms. A suspension system may include an upward stabilizing member extending from a support portion of the suspension system and a pivotally attached downward stabilizing member. The pivotal attachment between upward and downward stabilizing members allows the suspension to be appropriately incorporated into helmets that are subject to manufacturing and specification variability, while still providing flexibility for fit adjustments to the suspension system.
