A respiratory mask includes a body having an interior space that defines a plenum between the body and a face of the user when the user is wearing the mask. The respiratory mask also includes a voice transmittal feature in and contiguous with the body that has a voice transmittal membrane that is configured to vibrate in response to sound waves generated by the user such that the voice transmittal membrane transmits the sound waves from the plenum of the body to an ambient environment of the user. The voice transmittal feature thus enhances the intelligibility of a user's speech so that others may more clearly understand what the user is saying. For example, this may increase safety and efficiency in emergency response situations in which the use of a respiratory mask is required.

Respirator mask with voice transmittal feature

A respiratory mask includes a body configured to cover a nose and a mouth of a user. The body includes a face seal configured to at least partially seal the body to a face of the user. The face seal includes a standard reflex seal that is configured to engage in physical contact with the face to form a first segment of a seal between the body and the face. The face seal also includes a reverse reflex seal that is configured to engage in physical contact with the face to form a second segment of a seal between the body and the face. This configuration allows the mask body to float in place with respect to the face seal and preserves the seal between the mask and the face, even when the user is talking or moving his or her face.

Face seal for respirator mask

A respirator filter connection mechanism with a first attachment element, the first attachment element associated with a respirator mask. The mechanism has a second attachment element which is associated with a filter. It also has openings provided through the first and second attachment elements and configured to be aligned with an inlet or discharge port of the mask and an inlet or discharge port of the filter. One of the first and second attachment elements includes a spring element located proximate to a corresponding opening, while another the first and second attachment elements includes an attachment shelf located proximate to a corresponding opening. The spring element is configured to be linearly advanced into initial engagement with the attachment shelf until the spring element and attachment shelf couple to one another in an intermediate loaded position. The attachment shelf has a cam feature that slidably engages the spring element and pulls the spring element from the intermediate loaded position into a locked and sealed position as at least one of the attachment shelf and spring element is rotated relative to the other of the attachment shelf and spring element.

Respirator filter interface

A conformal filter is disclosed having a plurality of sorbent beds oriented perpendicular to an inner side surface of the filter which conforms to an adjacent surface, such as a wearer's face when attached to a respirator. The inner side of the filter may approximate the curved shape of an interfacing surface. Because the sorbent beds are oriented perpendicular to the inner side surface, a conformal configuration can be achieved without bending the sorbent beds and while keeping constant bed residence time throughout the entire cross-sectional area of the air flow, thus enforcing even air distribution. Reduced bed depth is also achieved through this configuration which consequently reduces the overall pressure drop through the filter. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
