A valve disabler for use in high pressure pipe cleaning systems. The valve disabler of the present invention serves to disable a single cylinder in a multi-cylinder plunger pump so as to generate pulsatile pressure surges within a hose member. The pulsatile pressure surges cause the distal end of the hose member to move in a serpentine manner, thus allowing the hose member to negotiate down a tortuous path within the pipe without stalling or becoming otherwise impeded.

An improved valve assembly for automatically priming a hydraulic pump during a suction-fed application wherein the pump must draw fluid from within a holding tank for subsequent pressurization and transmission by the pump. The valve assembly of the present invention is provided in fluid communication with the outlet line of the pump and is capable of sensing the difference between fluid and air such that the air disposed within the pump at start-up may be quickly and efficiently bled from the system before the valve automatically closes once the fluid has been drawn into the pump in an amount sufficient to bring the pump into a fully primed condition. The valve assembly includes a housing member, a poppet member, a biasing means, and sealing means. The housing member includes a bore extending between an inlet aperture and an outlet aperture, and a slotted shoulder member extending radially inward from the inlet aperture. The biasing means biases the poppet member between a priming mode, wherein the poppet member is disposed in contact with the shoulder member such that a path of fluid communication extends from the slots of the shoulder member to the outlet aperture, and a closed mode, wherein the poppet member is disposed in contact with the sealing means such that the aforementioned path of fluid communication is closed.

A spray gun is designed for use with a texture pumping unit which requires of air through the spray gun in order to start the pump. A bleed valve is provided which alternatively directs air to the front of the gun or may be bled to the outside to allow the pumping unit to operate without the gun actually spraying atomized material.

A pressure gauge and indicator switch wherein a Bourdon tube and electrical switch are sealably contained within a liquid-filled compartment, and a liquid pathway is provided between the Bourdon tube and an external fitting. The electrical switch leads are connectable outside the compartment, and the Bourdon tube is mechanically linked to a pressure indicator so as to provide an analog reading of actual pressure within the Bourdon tube, and the Bourdon tube is mechanically linked to the pressure switch so as to provide a switch actuation whenever the pressure within the Bourdon tube reaches a predetermined level.

A pressure-fed brush may be used for efficient painting. The elastomeric bladder member inside the brush member is provided with a plurality of slots which separate the pressure-fed V-slots into separate fingers, thereby allowing flexing over irregular surfaces. A flow control restrictor is also provided to allow the flow fed to the brush to be varied according to the nature and viscosity of the materials being used. By providing such a flow controller, the need to feather or otherwise modulate the valve at the brush is removed. The handle and valve assembly may be utilized with different size brush heads by provision of different intermediate members which retain varying size bladders for use with varying size brush members.

A ball check valve is provided having a ball retainer which is particularly inexpensive to manufacture and yet which is capable of allowing high amounts of flow without clogging or plugging. The retainer member is formed with three stamped pieces of sheet material which are generally u-shaped and have included an angle such that the sum of the angles is 360.degree.. In the preferred embodiment three such retainer components are used and the retaining member is held in place between two housing members which are threadably attached to one another. The ball and spring are held in place by the retainer member.

A bristle assembly and flexible tapered insert are confined in sealing engagement in the applicator, the flexible insert having a plurality of capillary holes extending from an upper chamber to bottom openings aligned with a plurality of V-shaped slots. The V-shaped slots are supported by tapered ribs terminating at the slot ends, and the flexible insert is tapered to a plurality of closed ends bridging the shaped slots. The handle of the applicator is adapted for connection to a source of pressurized liquid and an interior liquid flow path is provided through a valve chamber and into flow communication with the capillary openings through the flexible insert.
