Storage system

The present invention is embodied in a printing system for printing identification cards with durable full-color images using an inkjet printing device. In general, the present invention provides an inkjet printing device that is used to print images on a plastic identification card. The images are printed reversibly on a transparent media. The transparent media is then laminated onto a plastic card with the side with the images being adhered to the card. As a result, the images are viewed as being printed correctly on the transparent media. Further, the images are protected on one side by the transparent media itself and on the other side by the plastic card.

Method and system of printing identification card (ID) using an inkjet printer

In accordance with one embodiment, a printing device includes one or more print cartridges configured to remain stationary in a first position over a media path during printing and configured to be serviced while in a second position outside an area above the media path. The printing device further includes a service station configured to service the one or more print cartridges; and, a motor assembly configured to move the one or more print cartridges from the first position to the second position.

Printing device and method for servicing same

In accordance with one embodiment, a printing device includes a plurality of print cartridges arranged in an array. The printing device also includes a plurality of modular cleaning units for servicing the plurality of print cartridges, the modular cleaning units being arranged to allow the plurality of print cartridges to be serviced simultaneously.

Both a printing-medium support (such as a platen) and a printhead-carriage slide-rod are supported and located in common from a single chassis. Preferably a pair of positive stops is used to locate the slide-rod, and a biasing retainer forcibly abuts the rod against, selectively, either stop of the pair of positive stops. Alternatively the two positive stops are instead used to locate the print-medium support--or separate pairs of such stops are used to locate both the slide-rod and the print-medium support respectively. A respective biasing retainer forcibly engages each located support element against one or the other of its stops. In another facet of the invention, an accurate system establishes and adjustably controls printhead-to-print-medium spacing without an assembly fixture. An adjustable mechanism (such as the biasing retainer mentioned above), distinct from both support elements, locates one of the two supports relative to the other. The mechanism includes components that enable adjustment to control the spacing between the printhead and the printing medium--but these adjustment-enabling components contribute zero uncertainty to the spacing. The assembly method includes positioning the slide-rod with its two ends in respective oversize mounting holes of a chassis, and attaching to each end of the slide-rod a respective retainer to force the slide-rod end in one of exactly two opposite directions against the mounting-hole edge.
