Various mechanisms for implementing power activation of electronic tags via conductive contact labels are provided herein. An electronic shipping tag includes a housing to enclose: a printed circuit board having: a battery; load circuitry; and a plurality of pins that project from the housing, such that when contacted with a conductive substrate, cause activation of the load circuitry.

A digital video editing system uses a graphical user interface which facilitates the selection of a video sequence of interest and its representation in a conveniently visualized form. Through the graphical user interface, the user may select a starting frame, a time interval, and a number of frames within the time interval which may be represented by thumbnail depictions of selected video frames. Once the video sequence is represented by a selected sequence of video frames over a selected interval, the user can then use editing techniques to manipulate the portions of the video sequence represented by the thumbnail depictions.

In embodiments, apparatuses, methods and storage media are described that are associated with presentation of video data during pause. In embodiments, upon receipt of a pause command, a video presentation engine may repeatedly present a multi-frame segment of video content until a resume command is received. In embodiments, the multi-frame segment may begin at a point when the pause command is received or at an earlier point. Sound may be selectively played, in embodiments, along with the multi-frame segment. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

A system enables dynamic linking between a variety of video formats including television broadcasts, web pages, and video displays which are stored on magnetic or optical media. Each frame of the video information is identified together with a plurality of locations within that frame. The locations selected by the user for example using a pointing device is then used to access associated information either within the system itself or on an external system. Thus, in some embodiments of the present invention, any item on a given frame may be linked initially or thereafter to other information within or without the particular system containing that information.

Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, an appliance having a camera and camera window may include a shutter puck slidably disposed in a slot in which the camera window may be disposed. The puck may have a wiper pad that is capable of cleaning the camera window as the puck is slid within the slot from a camera on to a camera off or privacy position. The puck may comprise an at least partially deformable material so that the puck may be inserted into and/or removed from the slot by at least partially deforming the puck to allow the puck to be installed in or extracted from the slot. The puck may further include a grip rib structure or the like to allow a user to grasp the puck and slide the puck within the slot.

An improved search engine, for a computing device or computer network, utilizes search strings comprising complete words and numbers representing a syllable count for each unknown word. Pattern-matching algorithms are utilized to search a document database for documents that match the input search strings. The document database is constructed by analyzing a number of documents, utilizing document-analyzing algorithms. In one embodiment, each database record comprises a document that has been analyzed into one or more groups of word sequences. Each word sequence comprises an ordered list of words in the word sequence, as well as a corresponding ordered list of the syllable count for each word in the word sequence. The syllabic search engine can be implemented in different ways, such as through a software application, operating system, network software, or a custom software module. Improved computers and computer networks for providing a syllabic search function are also described.

A system and method for adult URL pre-screening. A URL request made by a child on a first computer is received by a gatekeeper. The gatekeeper compares the requested URL to URL entries in an approved URL table. If the requested URL is found in the approved URL table, permission is granted for enabling the child on the first computer to browse a Web page associated with the requested URL. If the requested URL is not found in the approved URL table, the gatekeeper accesses the Web page associated with the requested URL, generates a thumbnail of the Web page, and alerts a parent/guardian operating the second computer via an alert icon. The parent/guardian may view the thumbnail of the Web page by placing their mouse over the alert icon. The thumbnail includes a set of approval options from which to allow the parent/guardian to approve or deny access of the Web page for the child on the first computer to browse.

A keyboard number lock may be automatically transitioned in response to the detection of the selection of a text entry box. In particular, when a text entry box is selected, the keyboard may automatically be transitioned to the number lock state to provide numerical entries when particular keys are operated.
