The present invention is a single ply building membrane comprising a single ply membrane with a base and a cap layer and a top and bottom surface, having a predetermined printed design on the cap layer, and a predetermined texture on at least one surface of the membrane. The membrane may comprise compounds selected from the group consisting of thermoplastics and thermosets. The printed and textured designs may be of a laid roof or siding. The invention includes a method of installing a single ply building membrane on a building surface and a method of manufacturing such membrane.

Building membrane

A single ply mechanically embossed roofing membrane in a roll form for use in commercial applications on flat and low pitched roofs. The roofing membrane preferably includes a scrim or reinforcement sheet sandwiched between a top layer and a bottom layer, wherein the bottom layer is completely embossed with various configurations forming alternating ridges and valleys. The embossed roofing membrane improves roll blocking upon installation. The embossed roofing membrane can be installed by fully adhering or mechanically attaching to the roof deck.

Mechanically embossed single ply roofing membrane for anti-roll blocking

An apparatus is provided for applying a construction material, the apparatus having construction and an infrared heat emitter for providing infrared heat on the construction material. The construction material can be a roll of roofing material, which can be a roll of modified asphalt/bitumen roofing membrane material. The infrared emitter can be gas powered or electric powered. A method of applying a roofing membrane is also provided, where construction material is heated using infrared heat and applied onto a rooftop or other suitable surface.

Use of infrared technology to install and/or repair construction membranes

A metallic T-joint patch is provided for application to intersecting and overlapping portions of a single ply membrane system of different heights. When applied to the joint formed by the intersecting and overlapping membranes, the metallic joint patch having an adhesive layer conforms to the void formed by the joint and assures a water tight seal. A method of making a metallic joint patch and a method of applying a metallic joint patch to a void formed by intersecting and overlapping membranes are also disclosed.

Metallic T-joint patch

A target piece for sealing mechanical penetrations in single ply roofing membranes is provided. The target piece comprises a left piece and a right piece, or a single unified piece. The left piece can be applied on one side of the one or more mechanical penetrations, and the right piece can be applied on an opposite side of the one or more mechanical penetrations. Alternatively, the unified piece can be applied on the one or more mechanical penetrations. Left and right curb elements are attached to a top of the left piece and right piece, respectively. Faces of the left and right pieces are sealed to each other and faces of the left and right curb elements are sealed to each other using an adhesive/heat seal, thus forming a pocket around the mechanical penetrations, and then sealant is poured into the pocket to seal the mechanical penetrations. Extensions are provided on ends of either the right or left pieces of the target piece to provide extra insurance against water leakage.

In one embodiment, the present invention relates to a membrane for use as an outdoor building material comprising a non-reinforced TPO outdoor building material membrane composed of a single ply embossed thermoplastic polyolefin polymer wherein the embossed membrane has a stretchability in the range of about 5 lbf to about 30 lbf, as tested with about a 30-mil thickness sample under the 'stretchability test.' In yet another embodiment, the present invention relates to a method of applying a non-reinforced TPO outdoor building material membrane to a motor home roof comprising the step of: a) applying a non-reinforced TPO membrane to RV roof wood deck, wherein the membrane is composed of a thermoplastic polyolefin polymer with at least one of the following ingredients of a fire retardant, a UV and thermal stabilizers, a titanium dioxide and a calcium carbonate and wherein the membrane has a stretchability in the range of about 5 lbf to about 30 lbf, as tested with about a 30-mil thickness sample under the 'stretchability test' and wherein the roofing membrane has a whiteness of at least an L* value of 90 as measured by the Whiteness Test; and b) adhering the non-reinforced TPO membrane to the wood deck via factory or field applied adhesive with a minimum 4 PLI of peel strength under the ASTM D413 peel test.

Ribbed joint patch for single ply roofing membranes

A two-piece fastener assembly for securing thermoplastic roof membranes to an underlying roof deck having: a stress plate and a fastener. The stress plate consists of a pre-fabricated metal layer and a thermoplastic layer which are integral with each other. The stress plate has top having three flat surfaces and two circumferential portions, forming ridges or protuberances connecting the flat surfaces. In a method aspect the steps of securing thermoplastic roof membranes to an underlying roof deck, includes: placing a first thermoplastic roof membrane on the roof deck; placing a line of stress plates on the marginal portion of the first thermoplastic roof membrane and securing the stress plates along with the first thermoplastic roof membrane to the roof deck by use of the fastener; placing a second thermoplastic roof membrane to overlap the line of stress plates and the marginal portion of the first thermoplastic roof membrane; and applying heat and pressure to the line of stress plates and the overlapped portion of the first and second thermoplastic roof membranes to fuse them together and provide a waterproof covering over the roof deck.
