Carrier composition for introducing additives to a motor fuel

A fuel control system which is applicable to an internal combustion engine that employs a diesel type fuel injection pump. That type of injection pump incorporates a metering valve to regulate the amount of fuel that is delivered to a pair of pumping plungers. The system includes a microprocessor, and there are means for controlling the metering valve by an output from the microprocessor so that the fuel delivered may be kept at an optimum at all times throughout the operating range of the engine.

Internal combustion engine fuel control system

Piston for an internal combustion engine having an upper face which forms a part of an expandable combustion chamber. The piston is provided with a cavity or deep depression formed in the upper face to promote fuel-air mixing as well as to improve the combustion process within said combustion chamber. The cavity is formed within a cup-like insert member, so positioned within the piston body that the cup-like insert is substantially spaced or insulated from the piston body, thereby avoiding or minimizing heat loss to the piston walls.

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for operating an internal combustion engine whereby to obtain maximum efficiency concomitant with minimum pollution of the atmosphere due to the discharge of exhaust gases. The engine is fueled with a stratified charge of a combustion supporting gaseous mixture, followed by the force injection of a fluidized fuel. To assure proper combustion, particularly at low loads, the intake volume of said combustion supporting medium is throttled. The conditions resulting within each combustion chamber are enrichment of the combustible charge and higher temperatures. As progressively greater loads are applied to the engine, the throttling action is progressively reduced to maintain a combustible, yet lean, mixture to midload. Further increase in load is accomplished by enrichment through increased fuel input.

Internal combustion engine

A rotary piston engine including a casing having a trochoidal inner surface which defines an elongated cavity therethrough. Opposed end walls close said cavity, and a rotary pistion is journalled therein to be driven in a planetary movement, thereby rotating a drive shaft. Apices formed intermediate peripheral piston faces, slidably contact the trochoidal surface during the engine intake, compression and combustion periods. Each of said piston faces is provided with a shaped compound depression comprised in part of a first cavity in which an air-fuel charge is formed, compressed, and ignited. The resulting flame passes into a second or main portion of the compound cavity to ignite the major portion of the charge and complete the combustion phase.

Rotary engine and method of operation

A thermal reactor adapted to receive hot exhaust gases generated as the result of the combustion of a hydrocarbon fuel within an engine. The hot exhaust gas stream taken directly from the engine, is passed into a chamber where it reacts with air, preferably in the presence of a reaction promoting element. However, prior to the reaction stage, the hot gas is urged into a swirling motion and through a constricted passageway whereby to provide through a longer dwell period, better mixing, and avoid direct impingement of the gas against the catalyst bed surface when the latter is utilized.
