A plastic tube and a method and apparatus for forming it in which a strip of relatively thin plastic sheet material is cut from a roll of the material and wound around a mandrel. Overlapping ends of the strip are sealed to form the tube. The edge of the strip is inwardly bent to form an inwardly extending lip. When used in the manufacture of a capacitor, the tube is placed in a can on top of the disc of insulating material and a capacitor roll is placed in the tube. The edge of the sheet material can be pre-creased so that when folded inwardly, darts of the material form the lip.

Plastic tube and method and apparatus for manufacturing

A metallized film capacitor and method of manufacture in which the tab connected to the bottom end of the wound capacitor section has insulating tape along the part of the length thereof which extends along the section and the section is within an insulating tube in the capacitor can. A second tab has one end connected to the top end of the capacitor section. A liner having a foldable section is attached to the ends of the terminal studs on the inside of the can cover and the uninsulated ends of the tabs which are connected to the terminal studs are insulated and protected from other parts of the capacitor by being sandwiched between the folded sections of the liner.

Metallized film capacitor construction

A zinc metallized film capacitor includes a dielectric fluid comprising epoxidized soybean oil having at least one epoxy group per molecule, preferably four epoxy groups per molecule. Utilizing epoxidized soybean oil with zinc metallization results in a substantial performance improvement under high temperature and high voltage conditions, providing a zinc metallized film capacitor of reduced size and cost. In addition, the epoxidized soybean oil is relatively non-toxic, reducing environmental concerns.

Dielectric fluid for a metallized film capacitor

A metallized film capacitor includes an aromatic ester dielectric fluid including 2.0-5.0% by weight of an epoxide in an aromatic ester such as dioctyl phthalate. Utilizing such a particular amount of epoxide results in a substantial performance improvement under high temperature and voltage conditions, providing a metallized film capacitor of reduced size and cost.

Metallized film capacitor

A capacitor for a AC applications is manufactured from zinc alloy metallized polypropylene sheet material. The sheet material is wound into one or sections having a roll-shape, which sections are placed within a metal container and provided with electrical terminals for connecting to the exterior of the container. The metal container is then filled with a potting compound comprising 80%-90% blown asphalt and 10%-20% wax additive. When the potting compound sets, the capacitor sections are sealed therein so as to be protected from air, moisture and thermal and electrical shock. The container is then covered with a top which includes a pressure interrupter, and it is sealed. This capacitor exhibits improved resistance to deterioration due to environmental factors over long periods of time, and it permits operation with higher voltages than was previously possible.

Capacitor and method of manufacture

Electrical terminals for a wound capacitor section and a method of attaching the electrical terminals to the section are disclosed. Adjacent convolutions of a wound capacitor section are electrically connected to one another through conventional metal spraying techniques. Flat copper tabs having the surfaces thereof tinned, as with a thin layer of solder, provide the terminal connection leads for use of the capacitor in an electrical circuit. The tinned copper tabs are secured to either end of the capacitor section by tack welding the tab to the sprayed metal end of the winding. Tack welding of the tab to the metal coating insures electrical connection but provides little strength in mechanical connection. Each end of the capacitor section is then again provided with a sprayed metal coating over both the first coating and the tinned tabs.
