An electric drive work machine may include a body frame, a first electric power storage device mounted on the body frame, a second electric power storage device mounted on the body frame, and a junction box mounted on the body frame. The junction box may be operatively connected to the first electric power storage device by a first electric connection having a first inductance, and operatively connected to the second electric power storage device by a second electric connection having a second inductance. The first inductance may be equal to the second inductance such that power source charging power from the junction box is distributed equally to the first electric power storage device and the second electric power storage device, and power source output power to the junction box is drawn equally from the first electric power storage device and the second electric power storage device.

A machine having a series electric drivetrain system includes an engine to provide mechanical energy to an electric generator, the electric generator able to convert the mechanical energy received from the engine into electrical energy, the electric generator including an input shaft extending through the electric generator, a rotor to rotate on the input shaft, and the input shaft is able to rotate an input gear, an idler gear, a pump drive gear, and a rotor gear, a motor to receive the electrical energy and to produce a rotational output, a single speed ratio direct drive to transfer the rotational output of the motor to a torque output to deliver to a drive shaft, and power electronics to control the electrical energy between the electric generator and the motor and to regulate the rotational output of the motor.

A motor driver for driving a motor is disclosed. The motor driver has a first power bus, a first switching device coupled between the first power bus and a first terminal of the motor, a second power bus, a second switching device coupled between the second power bus and a second terminal of the motor, and an integrated braking chopper coupled between the first and second power buses. The integrated braking chopper is configured to dissipate an extra power generated by the motor.

A paving machine for laying a mat of paving material on a paving surface includes a generator, such as a switched reluctance generator, integrally installed with a pump drive and operatively connected to an output shaft of a power source of the paving machine. The generator outputs AC power to a power converter that in turn outputs DC power for a plurality of screed heating elements to produce heat to warm a screed. The paving machine may also include an insulation monitoring system for determining the occurrences of ground faults in the electrical components by comparing current levels in the components to a predetermined maximum current level. A controller of the paving machine may monitor the temperature of the generator and produce the speed of the power source to prevent overheating.

An electric powertrain includes an engine configured to provide mechanical energy and a generator operably coupled to the engine and configured to convert at least a portion of the mechanical energy into electric energy. The electric powertrain further includes at least one electric motor operably coupled to the generator, a plurality of driving members, and at least one power electronics unit configured to control at least one of the engine and the generator. The at least one electric motor is configured to provide torque for the plurality of driving members.

A power system includes a power source, a first electric machine drivingly connected to the power source, a second electric machine drivingly connected to the power source, and power-system controls. The power-system controls may include a bidirectional power regulator operable to cause the first electric machine to operate as an electric motor and also operable to cause and regulate generation of electricity by the first electric machine. Additionally, the power-system controls may include a unidirectional power regulator operable to cause and regulate generation of electricity by the second electric machine.
