A protective helmet having a cover plate over a front vision area and a cover plate knock out assembly for moving the cover plate a predetermined distance away from the helmet so that a finger of a user can get behind the cover plate to enable its removal from the front vision area of the helmet. The cover plate knock out assembly comprises a step-shaped actuator element and a light blocking cover. The upper portion of the step-shaped actuator pushes the cover plate away from the helmet when the lower portion of the step-shaped actuator is pressed. The cover plate made of clear plastic includes a spring tendency when slightly compressed when attached to the helmet thereby pushing the upper portion of the step-shaped actuator into a resting position in the helmet.

An electronic quick change cartridge for a welding helmet. The cartridge base is formed of an optically dense polycarbonate or like material that acts as a passive filter to provide eye protection during the welding process. A port in the base receives a variable density LCD cell and a cavity formed in the base receives the electronics for driving the cell. Optical masks prevent light leakage through any interfaces of the structure. When low light levels are present, the welder views a work piece through an essentially transparent or slightly opaque LCD cell. When an arc is struck, the LCD cell darkens to a shade corresponding to the shade of the surrounding polycarbonate material. The welder then can view the work piece through the LCD cell and all the optically unobstructed portions of the polycarbonate base surrounding the LCD cell thereby to have an expanded viewing area during the actual welding operation.

Safety helmet

A mobile work station for a painter or the like includes a frame and further includes a tray to hold paint containers (such as a paint pan) as well as tools, accessories and the painter's personal items. The tray may be segmented or divided into compartments for the paint pan and various articles. Legs are pivotally mounted on the frame for ease of storage and transport, and the legs have stored and depending positions, respectively. A removable cover is provided for the tray; and the cover may be disposed between the legs to further support the legs and to serve as a shelf during use of the mobile work station.

A mobile work station for a painter or the like comprising a tray to hold paint containers and tools, four legs with wheels and a handle. The tray may be divided into compartments to more securely hold the paint containers. The legs are pivotally mounted and may swivel through 270.degree. for storage in the tray for ease of storage and transport. The legs may be secured in the depending and in the stored positions. A removable shelf may be attached to the work station to hold accessory equipment, tools and personal items. A carrying strap is provided to facilitate transport of the work station.
