A system and method for collecting, transporting, and analyzing dried bodily fluid samples using a sample collection device incorporating extraction markers, an imaging device to take images of dried samples on the collection device, and a computing device to analyze data points from the images so as to measure various properties of the collected sample such as the volume of blood initially collected, and the portion of that volume containing plasma and erythrocytes.

The invention relates to methods of reliably and quantitatively determining the amount of an analyte of interest in a fluid sample using a flow-induced assay, such as an immunochromatographic assay, in which spatiotemporal measurements are recorded during the course of the assay reaction, generating a spatiotemporal dataset, and subsequently analyzed. The invention also relates to a system incorporating instruments for recording spatiotemporal datasets (spatiotemporal data recorders), devices comprised of flow-induced assays configured for analysis on a spatiotemporal recorder, and programs for analyzing the recorded spatiotemporal datasets.

System and method for spatiotemporally analyzed rapid assays

The invention is a device for separating blood cells from biological fluids, preferably plasma from whole blood. The invention includes a nonabsorbent, porous unitary support, which is desirably made of glass fiber, and a blood cell binding composition, such as a lectin. This device provides a test kit for measuring a plasma analyte in whole blood. This kit separates plasma from the whole blood, exposes the plasma to reactants that detect an analyte, and provides a chromatic or other result in response to exposure to the analyte. A desirable embodiment of the device has a cover plate over the reaction pad to apply uniaxialy pressure to the reaction pad which controls migration of plasma. The invention includes a method for separating plasma from whole blood and a method for detecting an analyte.
