A connector system for a miniaturized form factor card allows a communications system for mobile information devices having an applications processor and user interface components. A receiving frame is provided in the mobile information device for an insertable miniaturized form factor card incorporating means for RF transmission and reception and a wireless modem. A connector moiety on the card is received in a mating moiety in the receiving frame. The applications processor and the user interface components in the mobile information device are interconnected to digital functions of the wireless modem and means for RF transmission and reception through the connector.

Connector alignment system for a highly integrated, installable miniaturized form factor card for wireless communications functions

A connector assembly includes a first elastomeric connector having a plurality of alternating elastomeric conductors and elastomer insulators. The first elastomeric connector has first and second contact interfaces spaced apart from one another and extending generally perpendicular to the conductors and insulators. The connector assembly also includes a second elastomeric connector having a plurality of alternating elastomeric conductors and elastomer insulators. The second elastomeric connector has first and second contact interfaces spaced apart from one another and extending generally perpendicular to the conductors and insulators. A holder includes a body extending between first and second opposing surfaces, and the body defines a first recess housing the first elastomeric connector and a second recess housing the second elastomeric connector.

Elastomeric connector and retention member for holding the same

An electrical connector includes a holder configured to be mechanically and electrically connected to a circuit board. The holder has a surface that is at least partially conductive. A conductive elastomeric member is mounted in the holder and electrically connected to the at least partially conductive surface of the holder. The at least partially conductive surface is configured to convey electrical current between the elastomeric member and the circuit board.

Bonded elastomeric connector

A connector assembly is provided that includes a rigid circuit board, a connector base, an elastomeric member, a flex circuit and a cover. The connector assembly is compressively sandwiched together. The cover of the assembly provides the compressive force to ensure that a conductive path is established between conductive pads on the rigid circuit board and conductive pads on the flex circuit. The connector assembly may be manufactured entirely through a Z-axis assembly process. That is, each component of the system may be positioned on top of an adjacent component. A method of manufacturing a connector assembly is provided comprising the step of orienting a first circuit having conductive pads at a connector assembly position within a first plane. The method also includes the steps of conveying a connector base along a mounting axis perpendicular to the first plane to a surface mounted position on a first side of the first circuit and conveying an elastomeric member along the mounting axis to a cavity formed in the base in order that a first conductive interface of the elastomeric member electrically engages the first circuit. The method also includes the step of securing a second circuit to the connector base such that the second circuit is in electrical contact with a second conductive interface of the elastomeric member.

Elastomeric connector interconnecting flexible circuits and circuit board and method of manufacturing the same

An electrical connector includes at least a first contact element and a second contact element, wherein each of the first and second contact elements include alternating conductive materials and nonconductive materials. An insulating layer separates the first contact element and the second contact element. The insulating layer divides the first and second contact elements into dedicated contact regions and has a length to prevent the first contact element and the second contact element from contacting more than one terminal contact surface on an electrical component.
