An assembly is disclosed, in which a rigid ramp is rigidly connected to a tubular upper part of a steering column for interaction with a displaceable part of an instrument panel. Interaction between the tubular upper part and the displaceable part moves the displaceable part in a reliable manner out of the way during an impact scenario, during which a steering wheel is displaced towards the instrument panel. Displacement of the displaceable part by the rigid ramp permits the steering wheel to be fully displaced without the instrument panel hindering such motion.

A restraint system includes a webbing-guide shell including a guide portion and a sloping portion, and a member reinforcing the sloping portion. The guide portion includes a slot and an opening from the slot through the guide portion, and the sloping portion includes a top surface sloping downwardly in a vehicle-inboard direction. The material of the member is stronger than the material of the webbing-guide shell.

An airbag includes a main panel. The main panel defines an inflation chamber and is inflatable to an inflated position. The airbag includes a pair of extensions spaced from each other. Each extension has a perimeter surface, and the entire perimeter surface extends transversely to the main panel on the perimeter of the extension. The airbag includes an impact panel spaced from the main panel in the inflated position, and the impact panel extends from one of the extensions to the other of the extensions.

A knee airbag includes a front panel, a rear panel and first and second tethers. The first tether is between the panels and defines an outboard chamber. The second tether is between the panels and defines an inboard chamber. The tethers cooperatively define a center chamber. The chambers, in an inflated position, are substantially vertical and parallel. The inboard chamber is thinner than the other chambers. In the inflated position, the tethers respectively define first and second knee-receiving pockets.

A floor mat is provided for a motor vehicle. The floor mat includes a debris pan and a debris retaining wall encompassing the debris pan. In addition, the floor mat includes an integral heel blocker within the debris retaining wall that is adapted to protect the feet, heels and lower legs of an operator of a motor vehicle in the event of a frontal collision.

An airbag module for a vehicle includes an inflator disposed behind an instrument panel and an airbag arrangement. The airbag arrangement includes a cushion section configured to receive an occupant during impact and a balloon section disposed proximate a base of the cushion section and adjacent the instrument panel such that, upon inflation, the balloon section contacts and pushes against the instrument panel. This forms a swell on the cushion section adjacent to the balloon section configured to hinder movement of the occupant toward the balloon section.

An airbag includes a first side panel, a second side panel, a middle panel, and at least one extension. In the inflated position, the first side panel and the second side panel are spaced from each other by the middle panel, the middle panel having a top and a bottom, and a centerline between the first and the second side panels. The at least one extension is connected to at least one of the first side panel and the bottom of the middle panel, and is extendable in a direction away from the top of the middle panel in a deployed position.

An airbag assembly includes an airbag and an inflator in communication with the airbag. The airbag includes a top side and includes a front side and a rear side each extending from the top side. The front side and the rear side define two extensions spaced from each other along the top side and a recess disposed between the extensions along the top side. The airbag includes a depressed region extending from the recess. The front side and the rear side are connected to each other along the depressed region.

An instrument panel includes a frame, an intermediate airbag supported by the frame in an uninflated position, and a first airbag supported by the frame. The first airbag is disposed in a first direction from the intermediate airbag. The first and intermediate airbags are inflatable to an inflated position. The intermediate airbag includes an extension extending in the first direction in the inflated position.

An airbag includes a primary portion and a secondary portion. The primary portion defines a first chamber and the secondary portion defines a second chamber fluidly connected to the first chamber. The primary portion further defines a center axis and the secondary portion is disposed at least partially along the center axis. In its unexpanded state, the airbag may be disposed under an instrument cluster.

An active glove box system comprises an instrument panel and a glove box door. The instrument panel housing defines a door space bordered by a curb flange along top and lateral sides of the door space. The glove box door comprises a trim wall providing an outside trim surface of the door, a bladder wall sealed along an outer edge to the trim wall defining an inflatable cavity, and a reaction wall. The reaction wall defines a back surface of the door, is attached to the bladder wall, and has an outer fringe surface abutting the curb flange when the door is closed. The fringe surface and the curb flange comprise interlocking features configured to engage and disengage in a door opening direction and to provide interference against movement of the reaction wall along an inward perpendicular direction when engaged.

A curtain airbag system for an automotive vehicle is disclosed. The system includes a curtain module substantially embedded in the roof rail in its normal, non-inflated state. The module includes an inflatable curtain attached to an inflator. The inflatable curtain has a forward portion. An elongated and inflatable extension is attached to the forward portion of the curtain. When the curtain is inflated in an impact event, the elongated and inflatable extension extends from the curtain and at least partially overlaps the A-pillar and at least part of the grab handle. The elongated and inflatable extension is a first extension that extends from the forward portion of said curtain. The inflatable curtain may include a second, triangular-shaped extension extendable from the forward portion of the curtain when the curtain is inflated.

An exemplary knee airbag assembly may include an airbag cushion that has a first end and a second end. The airbag cushion may be inflatable from a stowed position to a deployed position in which it has a length and a thickness. The exemplary knee airbag assembly may also include an enlarged portion at at least one of the ends of the airbag cushion when the knee airbag assembly is in at least the deployed state. The enlarged portion increases the thickness of the airbag cushion along at least a portion of the length of the airbag cushion at the at least one of the ends of the airbag cushion such that the knee airbag assembly may be non-symmetrical.
