Articles including a substrate, a cover glass layer disposed over a top surface of the substrate, and an adhesive layer having a dynamic elastic modulus disposed between a bottom surface of the cover glass layer and the top surface of the substrate. The cover glass layer may have a thickness in the range of 1 micron to 200 microns. The dynamic elastic modulus of the adhesive layer may include a first elastic modulus in the range of 10 kPa to 1000 kPa measured at a stress frequency in the range of 0 Hertz to 5 Hertz and a temperature of 23 degrees C., and a second elastic modulus of 500 MPa or more measured at a stress frequency in the range of 10 Hertz to 1000 Hertz and a temperature of 23 degrees C. The adhesive layer may be optically transparent. The articles may be bendable electronic display devices or bendable electronic display device modules.

Embodiments of a flame retardant composition are provided. The composition includes from 55% to 85% by weight of a blended matrix and from 15% to 45% by weight of a flame retardant package distributed within the blended matrix. The blended matrix includes a polyolefin component and a nitrogen-containing polymer component. In particular, the nitrogen-containing polymer component has a melting temperature of less than 240&#xb0; C. The flame retardant package includes an acid source, a carbon source, a polyoxometalate ionic liquid, and a synergist. The flame retardant composition can be utilized in cables, such as fiber optic cables.

The light diffusing fiber includes a core formed from a silica-based glass and a cladding in direct contact with the core. The light diffusing fiber also includes an outer polymer coating layer surrounding the cladding, the outer polymer coating layer being the cured product of a liquid polymer blend including a scattering material and a luminophore.

Optical fiber illumination systems and methods

Embodiments of an optical fiber cable configured for installation in a roadbed are provide. The optical fiber cable includes an optical fiber, a cable jacket surrounding the optical fiber, and an upjacket surrounding the cable jacket. The upjacket does not leach a chemical or chemicals into the roadbed that soften the roadbed. Also provided are embodiments of a method of producing an optical fiber cable configured for installation in a roadbed. Further, embodiments of a method of deploying an optical fiber cable into a roadbed are provided. The method involves the steps of forming a channel in the roadbed, inserting an optical fiber cable into the channel, and closing the channel so as to bury the optical fiber cable in the roadbed.

An illuminated bandage and method of disinfecting a wound. The illuminated bandage includes a power source, a light source coupled to the power source to generate light and a patch. The patch includes a supporting medium and at least one light diffusing element in the supporting medium and optically coupled to the light source. The light diffusing element outputs light to promote a photochemical reaction to disinfect a wound surface proximate thereto.

A method of irradiating a wound that includes positioning a wound insertion foam within a wound cavity of a wound and covering the wound insertion foam using a wound sealing layer. The method further includes pumping fluid from the wound cavity using a drain tube sealed within the wound cavity and coupled to a vacuum source, and irradiating the wound using a light diffusing optical fiber that is optically coupled to a therapeutic light source and includes light scattering structures distributed along the light diffusing optical fiber. A portion of the light diffusing optical fiber is positioned within a wound tissue region of the wound, the wound cavity, or both, such that light emitted by the therapeutic light source enters the light diffusing optical fiber, scatters outward from the light diffusing optical fiber, and irradiates the wound tissue region, a wound cavity surface of the wound, or both.

A light delivery system and method are provided to promote a photochemical reaction for disinfecting a surface. The system includes a light source and a light diffusing element operatively coupled to the light source and further embedded within a surface to be disinfected. The light diffusing element outputs light to the surface to promote a photochemical reaction to disinfect the surface. A low scatter light transmission medium may further be coupled between the light source and the light diffusing element to transmit light from the light source remotely to the light diffusing element.

Flow reactor for photochemical reactions

A method of securing an optical fiber to a ferrule includes: heating an adhesive composition that is disposed within the ferrule to melt the adhesive composition; inserting the optical fiber into a fiber-receiving passage defining an inner surface of the ferrule and into contact with the melted adhesive composition; and cooling the melted adhesive composition. The adhesive composition is a solid material disposed within the fiber-receiving passage of the ferrule and in contact with the inner surface of the ferrule prior to the heating step. Additionally, the adhesive composition comprises a partially cross-linked resin and a coupling agent that covalently bonds the partially cross-linked resin to respective inorganic surfaces of the optical fiber and the ferrule following the cooling step.

Methods for securing an optical fiber to a ferrule and optical connectors formed by such methods

An optical connector for terminating an optical fiber includes a ferrule, an optical fiber, and an adhesive composition disposed within a fiber-receiving passage of the ferrule. The adhesive composition, which is in contact with the inner surface of the ferrule and the optical fiber, includes a partially cross-linked resin that is a polymer and a coupling agent that chemically bonds the partially cross-linked resin to an inorganic surface of at least one of the optical fiber and the ferrule.

Optical connector and ferrule adhesion system including adhesive composition, and related methods

Lighting units and light fixtures incorporating lighting units having light-diffusing optical fiber are disclosed. Lighting units include a light source, at least one light-diffusing optical fiber optically coupled to the light source, and a support plate. The at least one light-diffusing optical fiber scatters light that is optically coupled into the at least one light-diffusing optical fiber from the light source. The support plate has a retention groove to which a portion of the at least one light-diffusing optical fiber is coupled. The support plate also includes a perimeter. A groove length of the retention groove is greater than the perimeter of the support plate.

An optical fiber cable assembly includes an optical tracer fiber, an optical data transmission fiber, and a cable jacket.
