A fingerprint image capture system comprises an electro-optical material which captures a static fingerprint image and an apparatus for converting the static fingerprint image into an electronic signal. The image capture system includes an electrode for contacting a finger, and a bias supply for creating an electric field where epidermal ridges contact the electro-optical material. A transistor array senses charge or optical density variations in the electro-optical material to create an electronic representation of the fingerprint image. An initialization electrode places the electro-optical material into a uniform condition prior to acquisition of the fingerprint image. A physical artifact of the fingerprint image can be archived by removing the electro-optical material from the system following the fingerprint image acquisition.

A system for securing a fingerprint identification artifact comprises an electro-optical material which captures a static fingerprint image and an electrode array for encoding a security code onto the electro-optical material. The security code can be encrypted to prevent unauthorized reading and can further incorporate biometric data based upon the acquired fingerprint, an iris scan, or other attributes unique to an individual. The identification artifact so created can be removed from the system for archival or for use in verifying identity.

Systems and methods for stimulating neural tissue are disclosed. An array of optically emissive pixels is configured to deliver light to the neural tissue of a subject. Individual pixels within the array can be addressed to selectively illuminate a portion of the neural tissue when a neurological event occurs. The system can also include an array of microelectrodes in electrical communication with the array of pixels and a power source. A biocompatible substrate can be used to support the microelectrodes pixels, and the power source. A microelectrode circuit and a pixel circuit can also be supported by the biocompatible substrate.

Technologies are generally described for determination of a spectral profile of a sample. A microscope with spectroscopic capability may include a multitude of light sources, one or more photo detectors, and an analysis module. The microscope may be a table-top microscope or a hand-held microscope. The light sources may be configured to illuminate at least one portion of the sample, the photo detectors may be configured to detect returned light from the sample in response to the illumination, and the analysis module may be configured to analyze the detected light to determine a spectral profile of the sample. In some examples, the spectral profile of the sample may be compared to a spectral profile of a reference sample to evaluate the sample, where the sample may be evaluated to determine an identity, a quality, an authenticity, a composition, a density, a reflectivity, and/or an amount of the sample.

A color filter array material of a first color is disposed above the substrate. The pixel has a first relative responsivity. The light shield forms an aperture whose area is substantially equal to the light receiving area adjusted by a reduction factor. An imaging system using a color shutter receives signals indicative of color information in a plurality of planes together with infrared information and a signal indicative of the infrared radiation alone. The infrared radiation signal may be subtracted from the signals associated with the color planes to develop signals free of infrared radiation effects for each of the desired color planes. In addition an infrared signal is available which may have useful applications in some situations. In this way, color information color bands may be obtained without the need an infrared filter and infrared information is retained for use in other applications if desired. In addition infrared and dark current information may be derived that can be used for dark current correction.
