The present invention provides polymeric compositions having a high polymer size and a low Tg. These novel compositions are useful as plastic additives. Also provided is a method of improving the processing of a matrix resin by adding one or more of the novel polymeric compositions.

Polymeric compositions having low glass transition temperatures

Impact modifiers that produce transparent, high Dynatup impact strength blends with amorphous, aromatic polyesters are described. The impact modifiers are core-shell polymers with (A) a core composed principally of rubbery polymers, such as copolymers of diolefins with vinyl aromatic monomers, such as copolymers of butadiene with styrene, (B) an intermediate stage composed principally of hard polymers, such as polymers or copolymers of vinyl aromatic monomers, and (C) a shell composed principally of vinyl aromatic copolymers that contain hydroxyl functional groups or their equivalents (e.g. styrene/hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate copolymers).

Impact modifier for amorphous aromatic polyester

An improved process for preparing core/shell MBS modifiers is disclosed, wherein by adding feeds of the monomers which form the second and/or third stage polymers prior to completion of polymerization of the earlier stages, a process with substantially reduced polymerization time results with no loss in properties of the product. The process further includes agglomeration of the rubbery polymer to increase particle size during the polymerization process.

Preparation of butadiene-based impact modifiers

Impact modifiers which produce transparent, high notched Izod impact strength blends with amorphous, aromatic polyesters are described. The impact modifiers are core-shell polymers with cores comprised mainly of rubbery polymers of diolefins and vinyl aromatic monomers and shells comprised mainly of styrene copolymers (e.g. styrene and hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate).

Amorphous, aromatic polyester containing impact modifier

Methyl methacrylate-butadiene-styrene polymer impact modifiers are improved by mixing them with about 0.01 to 5 percent by weight of a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, or 4'-hydroxy-2'-R.sub.2 -5'-R.sub.1 -phenyl. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is mixed with the improved impact modifiers and has improved dispersion and resistance to discoloration.
