This disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for assembling a rotor for a rotating electric machine, the rotor including a plurality of permanent magnet segments, and an outer sleeve or cylinder. A thin-walled metal cylinder is fashioned and arcuate magnet segments are positioned in angularly spaced relation against the interior surface of the cylinder. The segments are displaced radially outwardly to stretch or expand the outer cylinder, and the segments are then supported in the outwardly displaced positions. The segments may be displaced by a variety of devices including an expanding mandrel, a tapered part of a shaft and a tapered ring.

Method and apparatus for making permanent magnet rotors

A rotor comprising a rotor shaft and a rotor core on the shaft, the core being cylindrical. A number of arcuate permanent magnets are positioned at angularly spaced positions on the outer periphery of the core, and a tubular metal sleeve is positioned around the magnets. The sleeve extends beyond the axially outer ends of the magnets and the sleeve has end portions which extend radially inwardly and overlie the ends of said magnets. The sleeve has residual tension which produces a radially inwardly directed force on the magnets, and the end portions are spun or turned over and produce a force on the ends of the magnets.

Permanent magnet rotor for electric motor

A motor comprising a stator core having stator windings wound thereon and an elongated outer shell which surrounds the core and the windings, the shell extending lengthwise beyond the end turns of the windings and supporting the motor bearings. The core is slidable in the shell but is retained in place in the lengthwise direction by first and second abutments fastened to the interior of the shell at opposite ends of the stator. At least one of the abutments is a ring which may be removed, thereby enabling easy assembly or disassembly of the motor. The core is retained against angular movement by a key which engages lengthwise extending keyways in the core and the shell. Tubular spacers are mounted between the stator core and the abutments.

Electric submersible motor with dual snap ring clamp

This disclosure relates to an electric motor control designed for attachment to a support wall or to a pressure switch. The control comprises a support having a base portion and a mounting portion. The base portion has a plurality of electrical terminals attached thereto and has at least one lead opening formed therein for electrical leads. The mounting portion has a lead opening formed therein. A motor control switch including a plurality of electrical terminals is connected to the terminals of said base portion. The mounting portion includes first means for attaching the support to a pressure switch and second means for attaching the mounting portion to a support wall. A cover is removably attached to the base portion, and the control switch is mounted in the cover.

Electric motor control

This disclosure deals with a time delay cut-out circuit for the start winding of an AC electric motor. The circuit includes an electronic switch which is connected in series with the start winding and which may be selectively closed to energize the start winding. Time delay means is provided which, in response to current flow therethrough, provides a timing period. An auxiliary coil is inductively coupled to the motor windings and supplies current to operate the time delay means. The time delay means operates the electronic switch to energize the start winding during the timing period. The components of the circuit, except for the coil, are mounted in a capsule which may be plugged into the motor from the exterior of the stator. The time delay means includes a self heating, heat responsive device, and the components are sized and arranged to optimize the heat generation and dissipation properties and thereby obtain the desired operating characteristics.

Start winding cut-out circuit for an electric motor

This disclosure deals with single phase AC electric motors. The motor includes run and start windings, a start winding cutout switch connected in series with the start winding, and an electrical connector. Different power supply arrangements are provided which couple with the connector. One arrangement includes a power supply cable which supplies power and a jumper attachment which connects the start and run windings in parallel, thus causing the motor to operate as a split phase motor. In another arrangement, a cable supplies power and a capacitor attachment is provided for connecting the start winding to a start capacitor, thus causing the motor to operate as a capacitor start motor. The motor may be constructed to receive the attachments at either end of the motor.

Electric motor construction

This disclosure deals with a time delay cut-out circuit for the start winding of an AC electric motor. The circuit includes an electronic switch which is connected in series with the start winding and which may be selectively closed to energize the start winding. Time delay means is provided which in response to current flow therethrough, provides a timing period. The electronic switch is connected to respond to the time delay means which closes the electronic switch to energize the start winding during the timing period. The components of the circuit, except for the coil, are mounted in a capsule which may be plugged into the motor from the exterior of the stator. The time delay means includes a heat responsive device, and the components are sized and arranged in the capsule to optimize the heat generation and dissipation properties and thereby obtain the desired operating characteristics.

This disclosure relates to a centrifugal mechanism and switch construction particularly for use in an electric motor. The mechanism includes a support part that is secured to and rotates with the motor shaft, and a weight that is carried by the support part. The weight has its center of gravity to one side of the motor axis, and the weight is pivotally attached to the support part. Centrifugal force tends to swing the weight in one direction and springs connected between the support part and the weight tend to counter the centrifugal force. A lightweight disc is pivotally connected to the moving end of the weight, the disc being located to activate the switch. The weight and a hinge member form a parallel arm connection between the disc and the support part.
