A free-standing clamping fixture and grinding wheel system for sharpening scissors and similar workpieces. The clamping fixture has an open frame and a pair of jaws located at the horizontal centerline of the grinding wheel, one of which is carried on a vertically adjustable yoke which also allows some lateral movement. The clamping fixture frame is angularly adjustable to the desired sharpening angle. The free-standing grinding wheel is provided with a moveable wheel guard which locks into place to open or close off an appropriate inlet of a grit removal system.

Sharpening device

Disclosed is a new fastening system particularly for fastening of fiber-reinforced polyester/plywood panels 14 to metallic structural members 16 in sealing engagement through apertures 18. The system has a sealing capped nut 10 for receiving in threaded engagement a bolt 12. Upon such engagement a formable shank portion 40 of the sealing capped nut 10 is deformed in a designed fashion to form a seal between the bolt 12 and the aperture 18 opening.

A wrench adapter is disclosed which can be inserted into and removed from standard size wrenches. The adapter includes a plurality of pins interconnected by a resilient retainer which operates to position the pins in an array arranged to fit into the corners of a mating wrench opening. The adapter permits the conversion of wrenches between inch and metric sizes, and also allows a wrench to be used with a damaged fastener or with cylindrical elements such as studs.

Disclosed is a lug nut 10 capable of manufacture on existing nut forming machinery having a continuous thread through the entire axially inner surface 12 while having suitable drive means placed upon the axially outer surface 14 such as a conventional hex 16. The lug nut 10 has a conical bottom section 18 for tight engagement and centering of a vehicle wheel upon a vehicle and an integrally formed flange 20 at the other end thereof along with seat 26 for acceptance of an insert 28 in tight engagement therewith. The insert 28 can have a highly reflective surface 32 to provide a safety feature for night time driving.

Lug nut

An improved power tool is utilized to tighten a connection between internally and externally threaded fastener elements. The power tool includes a motor which drives a socket which engages the internally threaded fastener element, such as a nut. A retainer rod extends through a central passage in a socket drive member to engage an exposed end of an externally threaded member, such as a bolt. An assembly is provided to hold the retainer rod against rotation with the socket and to apply an axially directed force to the retainer rod to urge it into engagement with the bolt. This assembly includes a piston which is releasably connected with the retainer rod and is spring biased toward one end of a chamber. As the nut is tightened onto the bolt, the piston is retracted into the chamber against the influence of the spring. The connection which secures the piston to the retainer rod is releasable to enable the retainer rod to be moved axially relative to the piston to vary the extent to which it projects into the socket. The piston and piston chamber have polygonal cross sectional configurations so that the side surfaces of the chamber hold the piston and retainer rod against rotational movement relative to the casing of the power tool.

Bolt holding machine wrench

A foundry core making machine is disclosed which produces large or fragile cores. The core is initially made in two parts, which are later adhered together by movement between first and second stations. The separate core halves are made in third and fourth stations and then relatively moved to be in the first and second stations, vertically one above the other, and with flat surfaces facing each other. The core box booking means is utilized to move the lower core half upwardly against the upper core half to have the two adhere together. This same booking means was previously used to press vent grooves in one core half so that when the two core halves were assembled, a generally centrally extending core venting aperture was established. The core box ejection means then ejects the completed core from one core box in a carefully controlled movement. The foregoing abstract is merely a resume of one general application, is not a complete discussion of all principles of operation or applications, and is not to be construed as a limitation on the scope of the claimed subject matter.

Simplified foundry core making machine and method

A molding machine for use with quick setting and cold setting sticky mold material, a mixture of sand and self-setting adhesive, is provided with a device to clean out the machine during each cycle and after the blow operation is completed. The sand and adhesive is mixed with the catalyst to a condition so that it will set up in a matter of seconds, e.g. ten to sixty seconds, and as it is mixed, a predetermined quantity is immediately deposited in a magazine. The magazine is closed by a valve and air pressure is applied to blow the sticky mold mixture from the magazine through a blow head into a mold cavity wherein it immediately starts to set. A diverter is provided with a diverter passage just outboard of the blow apertures of the mold box and this diverter passage is next enabled and air pressure is again applied through the magazine and blow head to blow any small amount of excess sticky mold mixture out the diverter passage into a receptacle. Air jets directed tangentially and downwardly in the sand magazine help move the entire slug of sticky mold material downwardly out of the magazine to clean the magazine and the enabled diverter passage cleans all of the excess material not used in that cycle. The diverter is disabled, the completed mold is removed from the mold, the mold box closed and the cleaned machine then is ready for the next cycle of operation.
