A method and system for detecting and correcting a Hot Manifold condition that occurs in turbocharged diesel engines where intake air used for combustion exceeds an acceptable operating temperature where sensors monitor conditions indicative of the Hot Manifold condition and power level reduction, speed control limits, varying coolant system operations, and cycling flow valves are controlled by a processor to correct the Hot Manifold condition.

Method for correcting hot manifold condition in a turbocharged diesel engine

A locomotive traction motor control system includes a traction motor suspended by traction motor suspension bearings, such as roller bearings in a bearing assembly, and traction motor suspension bearing temperature sensors, such as thermistors, for sensing a temperature of the traction motor suspension bearings. A controller, such a microprocessor based controller, receives a hot bearing indication from a hot bearing detection unit (HBDU) connected to the suspension bearing temperature sensors. The controller generates a warning indication based on the temperature sensed by the suspension bearing temperature sensors when the HBDU detects an improper bearing temperature. The control system also facilitates detection and warning of an improper stretch braking condition and subsequently limits current to the traction motors in response to detecting the improper stretch braking condition.

Locomotive traction motor control system

A computer based parking brake detection and warning system and method includes pressure sensors for sensing a pressure in a parking brake line to detect that a parking brake has been activated. The computer waits a predetermined period of time after detecting that the parking brake has been activated. The system determines parking brake warning levels based on the speed of the vehicle, detecting the activation of the parking brake, and based upon whether power has been requested by an operator. The system activates a visual and audible alarm in response to the determining of a warning level when the speed is above or below a predetermined threshold. Multiple levels of warning levels are used depending upon the speed of the vehicle.
