A clamping arrangement for quickly and easily mounting a spray nozzle on a support boom in predetermined orientation without the necessity for handling of separate fasteners and without disassembly of the nozzle. The clamping arrangement includes a pair of clamping elements that each have first cooperating portions for positioning about opposed sides of the support boom and second cooperating portions for positioning about opposed sides of the nozzle, and at least one of the clamping elements carries a fastener that is engageable with the other clamping element for securing the elements in mounted position on the boom with the nozzle captively held therein. The nozzle and clamping elements cooperate to both angularly and vertically orient the nozzle in relatively precise predetermined relation to the boom as an incident to such mounting.

A spray nozzle for producing a hollow conical liquid spray having a body formed with a cylindrical whirl chamber having a tangentially disposed liquid inlet passage and an orifice cap removably mountable at the end of the whirl chamber formed with a spray discharge orifice of the desired configuration. The nozzle body includes an upstanding post concentrically disposed within the whirl chamber for guiding pressurized liquid in a tangential direction about the whirl chamber, and the post has a recessed upper end for receiving the air core of whirling liquid within the chamber to retain the proper axial position of the air core and to prevent air core damage to the nozzle body.

Combined cap and spray tip for spray nozzle assembly

A fluid transfer system including a cap member having a first fluid transfer member therein and being removably mountable on a second fluid transfer member. Cooperating lugs and slots formed by the cap member and second member lock the two members together when the cap is placed on the second member and rotated relative thereto. A resilient annular gasket is disposed between the second member and cap member and surrounds the liquid passageway therethrough to prevent leakage. The second member and cap members form an annular space on one side of the outer peripheral portion of the gasket, and an annular bead presses against the other side of the outer peripheral portion of the gasket so that the bead bends that portion of the gasket into the annular space to effect a liquid-tight seal on both sides of the gasket. In the preferred embodiment, the locking lugs are formed on the second member which fits inside the cap member, and the locking slots formed by the cap member extend radially through the wall of the cap member so that the cooperating lugs on the body member are visible through the slots. The slots form cam surfaces which force the cap member tightly onto the second member, and locking notches adjacent the ends of the cam surfaces for holding the cap member in a predetermined locked position. The ends of the notches adjacent the cam surfaces are tapered in the direction of the cam surfaces so that the application of a turning torque to the cap is sufficient to disengage the locking notches from the lugs, thereby facilitating disassembly of the cap. In one embodiment, the fluid transfer system comprises a spray nozzle assembly in which the first fluid transfer member is a spray tip seated in the cap, and in alternate embodiments, pipe coupling assemblies are disclosed wherein the first and second fluid transfer members are pipe sections.

Quick disconnect fluid transfer system

The invention comprises a quick disconnect nozzle including a nozzle body and a nozzle tip, wherein the nozzle body may be connected to a source of fluid and the nozzle tip is separable from the body by a single twist type action, yet the nozzle may be securely locked in the body by an interlocking engagement between the nozzle and body that is engaged and disengaged by relative twisting of the two parts. The locking action is obtained by the engagement of cooperative elements on the two parts including oppositely disposed undercut shoulders on the nozzle body and a pair of rounded projections on the nozzle tip which are engaged under the opposing shoulders by the relative twisting action. The interlocked relationship is maintained by a combination sealing member and pressure device that effectively seals the connection between the nozzle body and tip and exerts pressure therebetween to secure the locked connection.

Quick disconnect nozzle

A quick-disconnect nozzle connection for a spraying tip and a nozzle body. The spraying tip is defined by a cylindrical inlet stem at one end of the tip, an interior fluid passage communicating from the inlet of the cylindrical stem through the tip to an orifice, at least one arcuate section extending radially outwardly from the cylindrical surface of the stem, and a recess formed in each arcuate section. The nozzle body is adapted to be connected to a source of fluid and defines an interior fluid passage, a first cylindrical chamber adapted to receive the cylindrical stem of the spraying tip, a second cylindrical chamber of larger diameter than the first cylindrical chamber and in axial alignment with the first chamber and further adapted to receive each arcuate section of the spraying tip, and retention segments extending radially inwardly over the second chamber, each of the retention segments adapted to matingly engage a corresponding recess in an arcuate section to connect the spraying tip and nozzle body in a locked and precise angular relationship. A spring disposed between the nozzle body and spraying tip maintains the body and tip in the locked relationship. Methods of manufacture for the tip and body are also disclosed.
