A manually-operated dispenser for user-controlled discharge of an internally-stored fluid includes a variable length assembly normally driven to its maximum longitudinal extension for fluid-tightly closing a fluid discharge opening and a vent opening disposed at opposite ends of an elongated housing, a piston bounding an end of an internal fluid reservoir and operatively movable along the housing for volumetrically reducing the reservoir and for driving stored fluid toward and through the discharge opening, and an actuator assembly manually operable by the user for causing controlled foreshortening of the variable length assembly whereby the fluid discharge and vent openings are concurrently opened permitting the forced discharge of a correspondingly controlled volume of stored fluid. An associated dispenser end closure cap incorporates a movable shuttle assembly for protectively receiving and substantially fluid-tightly enclosing an applicator integrally carried on the dispenser when the cap is operably emplaced on the dispenser for storage between fluid discharging uses thereof.

A brush adapted for selective application of a flowable fluid to a workpiece is formed in its entirety of a heat fusible synthetic material and includes a hollow head section, a plurality of bristles depending from the head section, and a fluid distribution channel defined by a flexible membrane and extending substantially axially within the radial interior of the bristles from the head section of the brush toward the free ends of the bristles. Fluid fed to the brush head is delivered through the head section to the distribution channel and is discharged from the channel onto the bristles within the interior of the bristle tuft and proximate the bristle ends for facilitated distribution among the bristles and ready application to a workpiece by the user.

A brush adapted for selective application of a flowable fluid to a workpiece--and which includes a hollow head section, a plurality of bristles depending from the head section, and a fluid distribution channel defined by a flexible membrane and extending substantially axially within the radial interior of the bristles from the head section of the brush toward the free ends of the bristles--is formed in its entirety of a heat-fusible synthetic material. A tuft of synthetic material in filamentary form is inserted into a mold cavity and a heated die is moved into closely proximate but predeterminately spaced apart relation with the mold for transferring to the mold sufficient heat to fuse the adjacent filament ends and form the brush head section. A heated pin is then inserted into and retracted from the mold cavity through the brush head section to form the distribution channel membrane.

A manually-operated dispenser for user-controlled discharge of an internally-stored fluid includes a variable length assembly normally driven to its maximum longitudinal extension for substantially closing a fluid discharge opening and for fluid-tightly closing a vent opening disposed at opposite ends of an elongated housing, the fluid discharge opening being normally sufficiently closed so as to prevent discharge of stored fluid through the discharge opening but permitting predetermined bleeding of fluid from the housing interior through the discharge opening, a piston bounding an end of an internal fluid reservoir and operatively movable along the housing for volumetrically reducing the reservoir and for driving stored fluid toward and through the discharge opening, and an actuator assembly manually operable by the user for causing controlled foreshortening of the variable length assembly whereby the fluid discharge and vent openings are concurrently opened permitting the forced discharge of a correspondingly controlled volume of stored fluid. An associated dispenser end closure cap incorporates a movable shuttle assembly for protectively receiving and substantially fluid-tightly enclosing an applicator integrally carried on the dispenser when the cap is operably emplaced on the dispenser for storage between fluid discharging uses thereof.

A system for the high speed application of pressure sensitive labels to products includes an apertured label receiving head having both some vacuum apertures or ports and also some high pressure blower apertures or ports. Connected to the vacuum ports is a main vacuum conduit and similarly connected to the high pressure blower ports is a source of high pressure air which is applied in pulses to an input high pressure air conduit. The labels are dispensed across the faceplate of the unit and are held onto the faceplate by the vacuum applied to the vacuum apertures or ports. When it is desired to apply a label to the product, a pulse of high pressure air is applied to the unit and a shuttle valve within the faceplate or immediately adjacent thereto, is actuated by the high pressure pulse of air to slide across and close off the vacuum conduit, while high pressure air is simultaneously applied to all of the blower ports to blow the label across onto the product.
