A prefabricated service bay typically constructed of fiberglass has a tank-like profile with an access opening for providing access to the underside of a vehicle. The prefabricated service bay is placed within an excavated hole within a vehicle service stall. The tank has a rounded section normal to the longitudinal axis of the bay. Drainage fill, such as pea gravel, is used between the bottom portion of the excavation and the bottom portion of the tank. A concrete cap is poured and cured over the top portion of the tank adjacent the opening. This poured and cured concrete serendipitously forms paired tracks for rolling placement of the wheels of a vehicle being serviced and additionally serves to key and maintain the service bay within the ground. Provision is made to provide a central standing area--preferably in the form of a raised platform--in the center bottom portion of the tank. Entrance and exit to the bay is provided through an end passageway with optional side staircase entry. Required accessories for material storage and the capture of fluids can be integrally built into the interior of the prefabricated unit. When installed, the service bay forms the required outer tank lining of a regulation required double lining system for oil storage underground.

Underground service bay for vehicles and process for constructing same

An apparatus and method are disclosed which find particular utility as a component of a traffic control system known as a conflict monitor. The apparatus includes a number of solid state switches which are activated to scan inputs from traffic control signals. The inputs are sequentially applied to a A-D converter which samples the voltage and applies it to a microprocessor which is programmed to determine the voltage and analyze the signals for conflicts, or other errors. The input lines are also connected to terminals of a program board whereby the microprocessor can instruct a switch to ground the common pin on the program board to allow program board inputs to be applied to the microprocessor for indicating permissible conflicts. A method includes a technique for determining the voltage of an input analog signal by scanning a plurality of input signals and sampling them in accordance with a relationship which provides minimum error. A display may be operated in one of two modes. In the first mode, a display indicates the signals involved in a conflict, or other error determination. In a second mode, the display may be sequentially stepped through each signal to determine its particular state at the time of a conflict.

Conflict monitor

Apparatus for retarding oxidation of a liquid that only partly fills a container formed with an opening through which a liquid can be poured comprises a cap mountable adjacent to the opening, an inflation tube insertable through the cap, and an air bladder connected to the inflation tube and positionable within the container. A pump is connected to the inflation tube and positionable outside the container. A valve is connected to the pump and the inflation tube. An exhaust tube is insertable through the inflation tube and has an inlet portion positionable in the container and an outlet portion positionable outside the container. When the cap is mounted adjacent to the opening, the air bladder and the inlet portion of the exhaust tube are positioned within the container, the pump and the outlet portion of the exhaust tube are outside the container, and the pump is activated, the air bladder expands within the container and expels air therefrom through the exhaust tube, so that oxygen is substantially prevented from coming into contact with the liquid.

Device for retarding oxidation of partly consumed bottle of wine

A free-standing fragrance candle comprises an outer shell, an inner core and a wick. The shell is formed of paraffin, a wax, a mixture thereof, or any of these materials in combination with fragrance oil. The shell has a melting point high enough that the shell stands freely and is not tacky at room temperature. The core is formed of fragrance oil and a carrier therefor. The fragrance oil in the core constitutes from 5% to 12% of the total weight of the core. The carrier is petrolatum, a low melting point wax, paraffin, or a mixture thereof. The core has a melting point substantially lower than the melting point of the shell and low enough to form a molten pool within the shell and to ensure a substantial release of fragrance into the surrounding atmosphere as the candle burns. The shell constitutes a container and provides structural support for the core.

Biconstituent candle

A method and apparatus for dimming traffic lights during hours of darkness to conserve energy. Electronic circuitry provides storage for weekly tables of twilight times for particular geographic locations covering an extended time period, such as one year. Counting apparatus counts weeks for addressing the stored tables, and an AM/PM indicator further differentiates between stored sunrise and sunset times. The stored time is compared in a comparator with the present time, and logic circuitry, responsive to the AM/PM indicator, reacts to the results of the comparison by activating and deactivating a dimmer for the traffic lights.
