An electrolyte and a method to electroplate a metal on a substrate using the electrolyte are described. The electrolyte includes an imidazolium compound, a metal salt, and water. The imidazolium compound has formula (I) wherein R, R, R, R, and Rare each independently selected from an H atom and an organic radical. Lis a compatible anion. The metal salt can include but is not limited to salts of the metals Li, Mg, Ca, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, Bi, La, Ce, Al, Ag, Au, Ga, V, In, Nb, Mo, and W.

Ionic liquid electrolyte and method to electrodeposit metals

Some embodiments described herein relate to ionic liquids comprising an anion of a heteraromatic compound such as optionally substituted pyrrolide, optionally substituted pyrazolide, optionally substituted indolide, optionally substituted phospholide, or optionally substituted imidazolide. Ionic liquids comprising heteraromatic anions

An absorption refrigeration system (ARS), includes a sorbent-refrigerant pair that has an ionic liquid (IL) sorbent and a refrigerant that displays a lower critical lower critical solution temperature (LCST) at a temperature of 50 to 100&#xb0; C., wherein the separation of the sorbent from the refrigerant occurs upon heating the sorbent-refrigerant pair to a temperature above the LCST. This liquid-liquid phase separation requires significantly less energy to desorb the refrigerant from the sorbent than vapor-liquid phase separation in traditional ABSs.

Ionic liquid-based absorption cooling system with high coefficient of performance

Disclosed herein are ionic liquid compounds, complexes and compositions suitable for use as refrigerants. Methods and systems for heating and/or cooling, including vapor compression heating or cooling systems, including such refrigerants are also disclosed. Preferred ionic liquids include those having anions selected from pyrrolide, pyrazolide, triazolide, imidazolide, benzimidazolide, and indolide, and cations selected from phosphonium, ammonium, pyrrolidinium, imidazolium, and pyridinium.

Compounds, complexes, compositions, methods and systems for heating and cooling

Disclosed herein are methods for COcapture that use phase change ionic liquids (PCILs) to remove the COfrom flue gas or other gas streams containing CO. PCILs have high COuptake and form a liquid PCIL-COcomplex when they react with C( ). When the liquid PCIL-COcomplex is heated to regenerate the solid PCIL material by removing the carbon dioxide, part of the heat needed to release the COcan be supplied by the heat of fusion of the PCIL as it solidifies. Utilization of the heat of fusion of the PCIL to assist in its own regeneration can substantially reduce the parasitic energy loss associated with post-combustion COcapture.

Methods of enhancing the thermal stability of a compound, particularly an ionic compound, using the aminopyridinium or piperidino pyridinium cations, are also presented. Compositions having an expanded liquidus range of from about &#x2212;73&#xb0; C. to about 444&#xb0; C. are also described. Solvents, heat transfer fluids, and lubricants having improved thermal stability characteristics and an expanded and improved liquidus range are also disclosed.
