Compositions of an ester-containing phenolic antioxidant seal-conditioning agent represented by the formula and a second seal-conditioning agent selected from sulfolanes, benzyl ester, lactones, nitriles, and other ester-containing phenolic anitoxidant seal-conditioning agents, serve to protect the integrity of elastomeric materials in contact with lubricants.

This invention relates to an aqueous composition comprising water, a surfactant or thickener, and at least one metal-free thiophosphorus acid ester, at least one amine salt of the thiophosphorus acid ester, or a mixture thereof, wherein the thiophosphorus acid ester contains at least one hydrocarbyl terminated oxyalkylene group, at least one hydrocarbyl terminated polyoxyalkylene group, or a mixture thereof. The aqueous compositions have improved antiwear/extreme pressure properties and improved antioxidation properties. In these compositions, the thiophosphorus acid esters and their salts act as antiwear agents and rust inhibitors.

The present invention relates to methods of using an aqueous composition or dispersion containing a water-soluble or water-dispersible synthetic polymer, and compositions formed thereof. Methods of using an aqueous composition containing a water-soluble or water-dispersible synthetic polymer and resultant compositions formed thereof

Improved grease compositions comprise a major amount of an oil based metal soap thickened base grease selected from the group consisting of simple metal soap thickened base grease, complex grease and failed complex grease, at least one sulfur and phosphorus containing composition, an overbased metal salt of an organic acid, a hydrocarbyl phosphite, and an aliphatic group substituted carboxylic acid or anhydride thereof, wherein the aliphatic group contains at least about 12 carbon atoms in amounts sufficient to increase the dropping point of the base grease, as measured by ASTM Procedure D-2265 by at least 15.degree. C., the phosphorus and sulfur compound being described in detail herein.

Simple metal grease compositions

Improved grease compositions comprise a major amount of an oil based metal soap thickened base grease selected from the group consisting of simple metal soap thickened base grease, complex grease and failed complex grease, at least one metal salt of a sulfur and phosphorus containing acid, an overbased metal salt of an organic acid, a hydrocarbyl phosphite, and optionally, an aliphatic group substituted carboxylic acid, anhydride thereof and aliphatic group substituted lactone, wherein the aliphatic group contains at least about 8 carbon atoms in amounts sufficient to increase the dropping point of the base grease, as measured by ASTM Procedure D-2265 by at least 15.degree. C.

Grease compositions

Improved grease compositions comprise a major amount of an oil based metal soap thickened base grease selected from the group consisting of complex and failed complex greases, at least one sulfur and phosphorus containing composition alone or together with an overbased metal salt of an organic acid and a hydrocarbyl phosphite, in amounts sufficient to increase the dropping point of the base grease, as measured by ASTM Procedure D-2265 by at least 15.degree. C., the phosphorus and sulfur compound being described in detail herein.
