A stabilized synthetic polyolefin pulp-cellulose blend is prepared by adding 0.1-1.0% by weight of an antioxidant (a hindered phenolic and/or phosphite antioxidant) to a solution of a polyolefin and solvent wherein the antioxidant is homogenously dispersed therein, forming the polyolefin into a polyolefin pulp, and then mixing the polyolefin pulp with from about 55 to about 90% by weight of a wood pulp to produce the blend. This blend with improved higher ignition temperature is used in the absorbent products industry as an absorbent core, when the blend is heated sufficiently to melt the polyolefin.

Disclosed is a laminated structure for use in an absorbent product comprising a hydrophobic acquisition layer adjacent to a fluid permeable top sheet, and an absorbent layer. The hydrophobic layer comprises a thermally consolidated blend of 5% to 35% of thermally bondable hydrophobic fibers and 65% to 95% wood fluff pulp.

In an improved adhesive process the amount of azidosilane coupling agent necessary to adhere a siliceous material to a polymer is reduced. The siliceous material, the azidosilane coupling agent and the polymer are admixed with an organosilicon compound and then heated at a temperature and for a time sufficient to decompose the azide groups of the azidosilane coupling agent. The reduction in the amount of azidosilane coupling agent is accomplished without adversely affecting the adhesion of the polymer to the siliceous material. Also disclosed are the products thus produced.
