Novel musical instrument strings and methods for making the same. Polymer cover combined with a low temperature resin is provided to the strings. Also disclosed are novel plastic materials comprising a film of porous fluoropolymer having UV-cured resin applied to at least a portion of the porosity of the film.

The invention is a stretchable layered fabric laminate which is air impermeable and waterproof while being permeable to water vapor. The stretchable fabric laminate includes a stretchable composite material layer consisting of a hydrophobic protective layer of a porous polymeric material on each side of a layer of hydrophilic water-vapor-permeable synthetic polymer. The composite material layer is laminated to at least one layer of stretchable fabric. The stretchable layered fabric laminate has excellent stretch and recovery properties in both machine and transverse directions, and is useful for the manufacture of form-fitting articles of protective clothing and other end uses.

Two-way stretchable fabric laminate and articles made from it

A flexible, breathable, composite is provided. The laminate comprises a middle layer of a padding and top and bottom layer comprising a sheet of water impermeable, moisture-vapor-permeable film bonded to the middle layer and wherein at least one outer surface of the top or bottom layer is provided with a pressure-sensitive biocompatible adhesive. Preferably the top and bottom layers comprise a composite of (a) a flexible, first sheet of hydrophobic material; and (b) a continuous hydrophilic sheet attached to or penetrating the first sheet, and forming a contamination barrier. The composite is useful in diverse applications such as a padding under orthopedic casts.

Adhesive-backed breathable layered materials

Elastomeric composite fabrics are described which have a layered construction and are made of a microporous polymeric membrane, a water vapor permeable polymer, and an elastomeric thermoplastic nonwoven material. The elastomeric composite fabrics provide barrier properties with water vapor permeability and find utility in articles of wearing apparel and other articles which conform about another object.

A coated product is provided and is comprised of a substrate and a coating comprised of a microporous scaffold having a high void volume and of open, interconnecting microstructure, the void being substantially filled with a chemical substance. The coating can be used by itself, or it can usefully be affixed to a wide variety of substrates. A method of making such products is also provided.
