A data storage interface for coupling data between processors and a bank of disk. The interface includes a plurality of first directors coupled to the processors and a plurality of second directors coupled to the bank of disk drives. A cache memory is coupled between the plurality of first directors and the plurality of second directors. The interface includes a pair of independent power busses. At least one of the first or second directors is coupled to the pair of independent power busses. One portion of the disk drives in the bank is connected to only a first one of the pair of power buses and a different portion of the disk drives is connected to only the other one of the pair of power buses. A power circuit includes a pair of input terminals, each one being electrically connected to a corresponding one of the pair of independent power busses. The circuit includes an output terminal. A pair of switching transistor sections is provided. The transistor switching sections is serially connected between a corresponding one of the pair of input terminals and the output terminal. A logic network is provided for operating the switching sections to prevent current passing into one of the pair of input terminals from one of the power busses from passing into the other one of the power buses. The logic section operates the switching sections to prevent current from one of the pair of power buses to the one of the input terminals connected thereto from exceeding a predetermined value, and operates the switching sections to prevent a difference between a voltage at one of the input terminals and a voltage at the other one of the input terminals from exceeding a predetermined value.

Dual power bus data storage system

A cable management system has a chassis, a communications interface and an access panel assembly. The cable management system a chassis which is configured to hold a set of circuit boards. The communications interface is disposed adjacent a side of the chassis. The access panel assembly is coupled to the side of the chassis and is disposed adjacent the communications interface. The access panel assembly includes (i) a frame portion which defines a frame opening, (ii) a set of bushings coupled to the frame portion, the set of bushings defining a set of cable ports and an access port within the frame opening defined by the frame portion, and (iii) a cover portion which is configured to substantially cover the access port defined by the set of bushings.

Techniques for managing a set of cables

An electronic system includes electronic circuitry having a first portion and a second portion, and an electronic cabinet assembly that houses the electronic circuitry. The electronic cabinet assembly includes a first cabinet that houses the first portion of the electronic circuitry and a second cabinet that houses the second portion of the electronic circuitry. The first cabinet includes a first frame and a first set of exterior members that mounts to the first frame. Similarly, the second cabinet including a second frame and a second set of exterior members that mounts to the second frame. The electronic cabinet assembly further includes a set of connecting members that connects to (i) the first frame of the first cabinet and (ii) the second frame of the second cabinet to hold the first frame and the second frame side-by-side and rigidly in place relative to each other.

Frame connecting techniques for use in electronic systems

A bus bar mounting system has a frame assembly and a bus bar assembly. The frame assembly includes a chassis which is mountable within an equipment cabinet, and an interlocking portion that forms a unitary member with the chassis. The bus bar assembly includes a set of bus bars, and a bus bar block. The bus bar block includes (i) a base portion, each bus bar of the set of bus bars coupling to the base portion, and (ii) an interlocking portion that is configured to interlock with the interlocking portion of the frame assembly in order to retain the bus bar assembly in a fixed position relative to the frame assembly. The interlocking portion of the bus bar block forms a unitary member with the base portion of the bus bar block.

Methods and apparatus for mounting a bus bar assembly

An electronic system has electronic circuitry and an electronic cabinet that houses the electronic circuitry. The electronic cabinet includes a frame that holds the electronic circuitry, a set of exterior members that mounts to the frame, and a stabilization assembly. The stabilization assembly has a base portion that attaches to the frame of the electronic cabinet in order to support the frame of the electronic cabinet over a floor surface, a pedestal portion, and a positioner. The positioner is configured to position the pedestal portion of the stabilization assembly relative to the frame such that the pedestal portion of the stabilization assembly is substantially wider than the frame along a particular direction when the pedestal of the stabilization assembly portion resides in an operating position relative to the frame. The pedestal portion can prevent the electronic cabinet from inadvertently being knocked over if pushed in the particular direction.

Methods and apparatus for installing electronic cabinets using improved stabilization techniques

A computerized system includes a chassis, computerized circuitry and an interface apparatus. The chassis has a circuit mounting portion and an interface mounting portion coupled together. The interface mounting portion includes a hinged platform. The computerized circuitry fastens to the circuit mounting portion of the chassis. The computerized circuitry has a computerized circuitry communications port. The interface apparatus has a frame that is configured to fasten to and detach from the hinged platform of the interface mounting portion of the chassis, and a console that attaches to the frame. The console includes an input device, an output device and a console communications port. The interface apparatus further includes a cable assembly having a first end that electrically connects with the console communications port and a second end that is configured to electrically connect with the computerized circuitry communications port.

Computerized system having an interface apparatus with improved mounting features

The invention is directed to techniques which use a press fit lever for a disk drive assembly. Such a press fit lever alleviates the need for additional hardware (e.g., screws and inserts) thus reducing complexity, costs and time associated with installing levers on disk drive assemblies. One arrangement is directed to a data storage system having a main assembly and a disk drive assembly. The main assembly includes a supporting structure and a connector fastened to the supporting structure. The disk drive assembly includes a disk drive assembly having a housing, a disk drive attached to the housing, and a lever that installs the housing into and removes the housing from the main assembly to enable the disk drive to respectively connect to and disconnect from the connector of the main assembly. The lever includes a frame portion, and side portions that extend from the frame portion. The side portions pivotably couple the lever to the housing in a press fit manner such that the frame portion is capable of pivoting relative to the housing and the main assembly in order to secure the housing to and release the housing from the main assembly. In this arrangement, there is no need for screws or inserts to couple the lever to the housing.

A bracket can selectively engage and disengage with a base in order to selectively secure and release a user station (e.g., a laptop computer configured to interface with a computer system) for access by a user (e.g., a system administrator). The use of the bracket enables a user station assembly to store the user station within a computer device cabinet in a compact manner, and subsequently unfold the user station assembly from the computer device cabinet for convenient access. In one arrangement, a user station assembly, includes a base, a support frame and a bracket which is pivotably attached to the support frame. The bracket is arranged to selectively engage and disengage with the base such that (i) when the bracket engages with the base, the bracket secures the support frame with the base and secures a movable portion of a user station with the support frame, and (ii) when the bracket disengages with the base, the bracket releases the support frame from the base and releases the movable portion of the user station from the support frame. Accordingly, the bracket simultaneously can secure the movable portion of the user station with the support frame the base and the support frame with the base, when the user station is not in use. Furthermore, the bracket can release the movable portion of the user station from the support frame the base and the support frame from the base, when a user needs to access the user station.

User station assembly with improved securing and releasing mechanism

The invention is directed to latching techniques that respond to ergonomically pleasing user movements, and that are well-suited for maintaining low manufacturing costs. One arrangement of the invention is directed to a disk drive assembly having a housing, a disk drive attached to the housing, and a lever that secures the housing to and releases the housing from a main assembly. The lever includes a frame pivotably that is coupled to the housing at a pivot point that defines a pivot axis. The lever further includes a latch that is coupled to the frame. The latch selectively engages with the housing and disengages from the housing. The latch includes an actuation portion that requires movement in a direction along an axis that is substantially perpendicular to the pivot axis to disengage the latch from the housing. Accordingly, if the pivot axis is horizontally-oriented, a user can move the actuation portion in a vertical direction, e.g., downward, in an ergonomically convenient manner to disengage the latch from the housing.

A housing receives a printed circuit board and a plurality of daughter boards. The housing has two opposing sidewalls, a floor, and a ceiling. The sidewalls extend from opposing sides of the floor to opposing sides of the ceiling. The opposing sidewalls, the floor and the ceiling defining an opening for receiving a daughter board within slots in the floor and the ceiling. A movable ceiling member attaches to the sidewalls. The ceiling, the movable ceiling member and the sidewalls define an opening for receiving a printed circuit board, such as a backplane, when the movable ceiling member is in an unsecured position. The movable ceiling member is aligned with the ceiling when the movable ceiling member is in a secured position. The movable ceiling member includes a fastener that secures the printed circuit board. The movable ceiling member accommodates printed circuit boards having various thicknesses.

A stiffener supports a printed circuit board during insertion and removal within a slot of a card cage having one or more electrical connectors. The stiffener has a rigid elongated member that defines an elongated channel. The elongated member is adapted to engage an edge of the printed circuit board along the channel. The member has an engagement portion for receiving an applied force, a driver portion for engaging an electrical connecting mechanism, and a translator portion for translating the force from the engagement portion to the driver portion.

A support bracket, which can be used in a method of reinforcing a printed circuit board, secures the printed circuit board, such as a backplane having a plurality of electrical connectors that engage corresponding electrical connectors of daughter boards. The support bracket includes a cross member attachable to the printed circuit board in a direction substantially transverse to a direction of motion of the daughter boards. The support bracket also includes first and second end support members attached transversely to the cross member at corresponding ends of the cross member. The end support members are fixable to a support surface and are adapted to secure the support bracket in the direction of motion of the daughter boards.
