A reversible pneumatic underground piercing tool of the type having a reciprocating striker with the impact of the striker on the front or the rear of the tool being controlled by the longitudinal position of a valve element in the tool. An interengaging pin and slot arrangement in the tool defines the longitudinal the valve element which is positively maintained in the selected position by the supplied air pressure. The longitudinal position of the valve element may be changed for reversing the direction of movement of the tool by interrupting the compressed air supply and rotating the air supply hose a small amount in one direction or the other to reposition the pin in the slot.

Reversible underground piercing device

A vibratory impact hammer including a hammer body assemblage suspended by rubber mounts for reciprocal axial movement in a support frame, the rubber mounts providing guiding and damping action of the assemblage in either director of axial movement without extraneous friction forces acting thereupon, and a pair of synchronously driven eccentric weights which are arranged to provide vibratory movement of the assemblage.

An adaptor for use in driving a pipe into the ground by a ground piercing tool, which adaptor is arranged to be driven by the piercing tool. The adaptor consists of a three piece cylindrical unit held together by two garter springs. A tapered conical bore, formed in the adaptor, has a slope comparable with the slope formed on the forward end of a ground piercing tool used therewith. A portion of the adaptor is arranged to enter the end region of a pipe being worked upon, and a circumferential shoulder is formed on the adaptor, for engagement with the end of the pipe. Impact action upon the piercing tool not only wedges the adaptor into tight engagement with the inner region of the pipe, but also results in driving action upon the pipe by reason of the circumferential shoulder being in engagement with the pipe end. When the piercing tool is subjected to reverse impact action, it is released from the adaptor, and the latter is collapsed by action of the garter springs, so that it can be withdrawn from engagement with the pipe.

A road surface removing machine including a modular assemblage, having a rotary cutter drum unit with flailing arms adapted to impact upon a road surface for disintegration of the surface, said drum unit having four degrees of movement, boom means associated with a rail means assemblage for operative movement of the cutter drum, outrigger means for stabilizing the machine, a vacuum operated system for picking up disintegrated road surface debris and depositing it in a separation bin, and an hydraulic circuitry for operation of the components of the machine.

Road surface removing machine

A drill rod table bushing arrangement which supresses drill steel whip while drilling under high thrust loads, and also prevents drill cuttings from accumulating on the drill table. A power operated ball wedge is operative to engage a drill rod, while high pressure air jets prevent drill cuttings from getting into the bushing.

A lubricator for feeding oil from a reservoir into a live air stream passing through a supply line to a pneumatic tool. The lubricator includes a passage of uniform diameter connectible at opposite ends into the supply line, and has within the passage in the path of air flow a teardrop formed air deflector functioning to cause differential pressures to develop through a pair of connected tubes in the reservoir, whereby oil is forced from the latter through one of the tubes into the air stream. One of the tubes is manually adjustable so as to cause a variation in the differential pressures and a consequent variation in the oil volume discharged into the reservoir.
