An improved surgical instrument and sterile clip for ligating the vessel of a mammal. The clip has a pair of legs which are urged apart by the instrument to allow the clip to be placed on the vessel to be ligated.

Described herein is an endoscopic instrument such as a dissector, scissor or grasper in which there is provided a shaft which defines a longitudinal axis of the instrument. This shaft is able to rotate about the handle portion of the instrument. This mechanism also provides for articulation of the end effectors with respect to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. This articulation is accomplished by causing angulation of the end effector with respect to the shaft. Because driving the cable is accomplished around any such angle, the end effectors continue to be able to operate. There is disclosed herein a locking mechanism which allows the rotational aspect of the device to operate to rotate the entire articulating mechanism. Also, a unique handle is disclosed.

Endoscopic mechanism with friction maintaining handle

An endoscopic surgical instrument is disclosed which is particularly facilitated for grasping the anvil portion of an circular surgical stapling device. The present instrument includes a generally elongated shaft, with a pair of cooperating jaw members disposed at the distal end of the shaft. The jaw members cooperate in a pincer-like action for gripping the anvil portion of the associated surgical stapler therebetween. The jaw members include cooperating jaw portions, each of which defines a semi-cylindrical gripping surface. The jaw portions are angularly disposed relative to the longitudinal axis of the associated shaft, and are otherwise configured to facilitate gripping and manipulation of the anvil portion of the surgical stapling device, as well as tissue manipulation.

Endoscopic anvil grasping instrument

An electrosurgical device for laparoscopic use in tissue dissection and coagulation. The device includes a barrel member having a dissection tip at the distal end thereof that is connected to a source of electrical energy. An insulating sheath member surrounds the barrel member. The sheath member is movable between a first position wherein the distal end thereof extends distally beyond the dissection tip and a second position wherein the dissection tip extends distally beyond the distal end portion of the sheath member. The device includes means to flush and vacuum the surgical site. The device also includes pressure relief means to limit the internal pressure within the device.
