An electric induction furnace for heating and melting electrically conductive materials is provided with a lining wear detection system that can detect replaceable furnace lining wear when the furnace is properly operated and maintained. In some embodiments of the invention the lining wear detection system utilizes an electrically conductive wire assemblage embedded in a wire assemblage refractory disposed between the replaceable lining and the furnace's induction coil.

A rowing sequence trainer includes a frame which holds a contact pad, the frame being mounted pivotably to a base. The base is inserted under a seat of an exercise machine, the seat being slidable along a support. The exercise machine includes at least one resilient cable which is attached to the frame. The athlete using the trainer pushes back along the support, while the frame pivots backwards. At the completion of the backward segment, tension in the cable pulls the athlete back to the starting position, and pivots the frame to its upright position. The exercise is performed without the assistance of hands, and trains the athlete in the proper sequence of initiation of tension in various muscle groups.

Rowing sequence trainer

A weight-lifting exercise machine enables an athlete to lift a mass from an initial resting position. After the athlete releases the mass, the machine cushions the fall of the mass, such that the mass returns to its resting position without assistance from the athlete. The movements of the athlete and the mass can be tracked, preferably by wireless accelerometers attached respectively to the athlete and the mass, and data on such movements can be stored and analyzed. The machine provides a monitor to enable the athlete to track the progress of the exercise, and to determine whether the exercise is being performed correctly.

Weight-lifting exercise machine

A rowing trainer includes a frame, and a seat affixed to the frame. A sliding rigger, which supports an oar assembly, is movable back and forth along the frame. The oars are indirectly connected to a cord which passes around at least one pulley, and which turns a flywheel. Neither the flywheel nor the seat translates relative to the frame. The only component which translates is the rigger and the associated oar assembly. The device closely simulates the experience of rowing an actual boat or scull.

Rowing trainer

An oar handle is used in sweep rowing. Sweep rowing is when a single oar is pulled by both hands of a single rower. The oar handle has a support which at one end can be secured to the end of the shaft of a sweep rowing oar. A handle bar having a pair of hand grips at its opposite ends is mounted at its center to the opposite end of the support. The handle bar is mounted to the support so that it is free to rotate on the support about a pivot point in the center of the handle bar. The pivot point is aligned with the central axis of the support. When the oar handle is mounted on the shaft of an oar with its central axis in alignment with the central axis of the oar, the pivot point is likewise aligned with the central axis of the oar. In use, a rower grips each one of the hand grips with one of his hands. As the rower pulls the oar, the handle bar rotates relative to the central axis of the oar, allowing the rower to pull equally with both of his arms and his body. The power of the rowing stroke is transferred from the pivot point of the handle bar to the oar along the central axis of the oar.
