A drive head for a bolt, fastener, coupling, nut or other driveable head made from a less malleable metal such as a powder metal nickel alloy. The drive head has an upper drive portion having at least six convex corners spaced around the outer periphery thereof, each corner terminating in an edge. The drive head also has a lower flange portion adjacent to the drive portion and having an edge extending radially outwardly to at least the edge of each corner. The drive portion and the flange portion of the drive head is formed by subjecting a blank having a generally circular head to electrochemical machining (ECM). A tool is also provided for the ECM method to form the drive portion and flange portion of the drive head.

A carburetion assembly including flow control means is provided for controlling a discharge spray angle of a fuel and air mixture thereof. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the flow control means can comprise a plurality of circumferentially spaced apertures in a shroud member which are effective for providing a control portion of compressor airflow in a downstream, axial direction from a swirler stage of the swirler assembly. The apertures provide a predetermined amount of airflow circumferentially about the fuel and air mixture for constraining the mixture and controlling the discharge spray angle thereof.

A plurality of circumferentially spaced props are attached to the outer overlapping segments of a combustor liner to prevent the thermal outward growth of the inner segment. Placement of the props on the outer segment allows them to remain relatively cool to thereby minimize stresses and, when combined with a liner design which centrifuges the cooling air to the radially inner side of the cooling slot, such placement coincides with a separation bubble so as to minimize flow blockage and resulting hot streaks.

An air-cooled combustor liner is constructed of a continuous, constant-thickness, annular shell having a plurality of rings attached to the inner surface thereof to direct the flow of coolant air entering the shell by way of apertures formed therein, along the inner surface of the shell to provide a film cooling function. The rings, which are fabricated to desired dimensions sufficient to prevent significant thermal distortion which would cause flow restriction, are secured to the inner surface of the shell by brazing or the like.
