An adjustable furniture apparatus is disclosed. The furniture apparatus includes a frame, an internal support structure, an incline assembly having a first and a second inclinable section, a plurality of lifting devices configured to selectively incline and support the first and second inclinable sections, and a cover disposed over portions of the incline assembly to form a comfortable seating intimate activity surface.

A medical device for clamping the stomach in morbid obesity surgery consists of a silicone frame that is essentially U-shaped, having opposing legs self-hinged to a bight portion interconnecting the legs. The opposing legs have sufficient stiffness to permit limited bending and have inner surfaces that sealingly carry an inflatable balloon which can be selectively inflated or aspirated after the device has been clamped to the stomach to adjust the gastric restriction stoma. A flexible latch member carried by one of the legs has at least one serration which is inserted into a latch cavity of the opposing leg to lock the opposing legs in fixed spaced relationship. Lumens within the legs communicate with a fluid supply source and respective inflatable balloon for selective inflation or aspiration of the inflatable balloons. The medical device for clamping the stomach may be self-adjusting upon distention and contraction of the proximal stomach. A platform member having finger extensions which are biased to remain in compressive engagement with the anterior surface of the proximal stomach reduce the gastric restriction stoma from its nominal position upon distention of the proximal stomach and enlarge the reduction upon contraction of the proximal stomach to the nominal position.

Clamp device to plicate the stomach

An example roll control device uses differential pressure values, for example, that are conveyed by a motor driven pump to a first actuator associated with a first stabilizer. The differential pressure values are also conveyed from the motor driven pump to a second stabilizer through a proportional valve in one example. In another example, multiple actuators are utilized with each actuator being associated with a separate motor driven pump in communication with a common controller.

A gerotor pump includes an outer rotor having a first toothed surface and lobes that extend inwards. An inner rotor is eccentrically aligned relative to the outer rotor and includes a second toothed surface and lobes that extend outwards. Planetary gears are located between the outer rotor and the inner rotor. Each planetary gear has a third toothed surface that intermeshes with the first toothed surface and the second toothed surface.

Foot impression generating apparatus comprising impression platforms including buns of open-cell sponge material bonded to an supporting non-porous skins formed of non-blown sponge material is utilized for making foot impressions by a consumer. The sponge material comprises a blended mixture of elastomeric thermosetting material and low melting temperature thermoplastic material chosen such that the buns and skins are respectively flexible and then become rigid when heated and then cooled above and below the plastic temperature range of the thermoplastic material. The consumer steps into heated impression platforms to form the foot impressions and then they are cooled and 'frozen' in place. Next, scanning means are used to create a digital contour map of the foot impressions. Then a digitally controlled milling machine is utilized for forming shoe inserts in conformance with the digital contour map.

Improved low flow impedance flow control valves are disclosed in the present invention wherein spring valve means () captured between a valve spool () and a shoulder () are utilized for selectively metering a flow of fluid from an inlet port () to an outlet port () via a round edged helical orifice () formed between the open coils of the spring valve () as a function of the instant axial position of the valve spool () and the differential pressure therebetween. An improved method of controlling low impedance flow control valves is also disclosed in the present invention. The improved method provides better accuracy in controlling fluid flow through low flow impedance flow control valves through continually cycling a means for substantially interrupting fluid flow therethrough in a low frequency pulse width modulated fashion.

Apparatus and method is presented for enabling a power steering system comprising an accumulator, a reservoir, and an electronically controlled closed-center control valve assembly for selectively fluidly coupling the accumulator and reservoir to a double-acting power cylinder of a power steering system to function in the manner of a force-based power steering system.

Aerobic rhythmic running exercise (RRE) is an exercise mode wherein a horizontally disposed participant elevates and lowers his or her limbs alternately in a striding manner against dissipative loading provided by enabling RRE apparatus. RRE comprises safe aerobic exercise for cardiovascularly handicapped heart patients and other participants by substantially supporting or balancing the weight of the limb groups one against the other during the alternate limb elevation and lowering. It is an observed fact that the blood pressure remains near resting values during such aerobic RRE. It has also been observed that RRE allows an athlete to preferentially develop fast twitch muscles useful for enabling improved running speed. Stationary RRE apparatus comprises a supporting tripod structure, and pulley supported leg and arm supporting rope lines coupled to leg and arm drive belts that are, in turn, coupled to leg and arm drive sprockets. The drive sprockets are operatively coupled to either an energy dissipative hydraulic assembly or an energy dissipative electric assembly utilized for providing selected dissipative loading for motions thereof. Alternate RRE apparatus is semi-portable in nature and comprises an elevated housing and horizontal member for mounting all functional components including reel mounted leg and arm supporting rope lines and a timing belt coupled energy dissipative hydraulic assembly or energy dissipative electric assembly utilized for providing selected dissipative loading for motions thereof. The elevated housing and horizontal member are supported above the participant by assembled front and rear tripod legs.

Method and apparatus for enhancing physical and cardiovascular health, and also for evaluating cardiovascular health

Vehicle power steering systems ( and ) achieve substantially linear control relationships between and applied steering torque input Ts and a resulting steering force output, that is, a powered assist to vehicle steering. Impedance matching means utilized for coupling an electric motor ( ) to the steering load respectively include speed reduction means ( ), torque summing means ( ) and force generating means ( ) in the systems ( and ). The speed reduction means ( ) comprises gear reduction means ( ) and a supplemental pinion. The torque summing means ( ) comprises steering column ( ) coupled gear reduction means ( ), and, the force generating means ( ) comprises hydraulic transmission means including a power cylinder ( ). The systems ( and ) are preferably regenerative. The systems ( and ) each utilize internal closed-loop servo control of the electric motor ( ) to substantially eliminate stability control problems including, for example, a low frequency stability control problem which has typically not been overcome in prior EPS systems.

Feedback and servo control for electric power steering systems

Passive and powered RLE apparatus (,and,, respectively), and method for use therefor, allow and encourage safe aerobic exercise for cardiovascularly handicapped patients by partially balancing or lifting the weight of the limbs. Furthermore, during such aerobic exercise the patient's torso and head are rhythmically flooded with blood, and thus subject to varying blood pressure, as the limbs are rhythmically elevated. It is believed that this enhances cardiovascular activity and health by enabling &ldquo;collateral circulation&rdquo; around partially blocked arteries. The passive RLE apparatus (,) comprises an overhead anchor structure (,), and leg supporting extension springs (,) and arm supporting extension springs (,) for partially supporting the limbs via respective leg and arm supporting straps (,and,), and spring hooks (,) during the aerobic exercise. On the other hand, the powered RLE apparatus (,) implements rhythmic elevation of the legs and arms virtually without any effort by the patient unless he, or she, so wishes. This is enabled by a gear motor driven crank mechanism, which elevates and lowers the legs (,) and arms (,) in a nominally sinusoidal manner. Leg and arm tow lines (,and,) are swivelingly attached to a gear motor driven crank (,) and respectively routed through various ball bearing blocks (i.e., in a manner similar to the rigging of a sail boat) in order to lift the legs (,) and arms (,). The legs (,) and arms (,) are, in turn, coupled thereto by respective leg and arm supporting straps (,and,), spring hooks (,), and leg and arm lifting extension springs (,and,, respectively), which actually lift and lower the legs (,) and arms (,) in a rhythmic manner as the crank (,) rotates.
