A seal arrangement includes a housing defining a cavity and having a flow channel extending through the housing to the cavity. The seal arrangement further includes a seal plate non-rotatably connected to the housing. The seal arrangement further includes a biasing element disposed in the cavity and axially aligned with the flow channel. The biasing element is configured to permit fluid to flow radially therethrough into the flow channel. The seal arrangement further includes a first seal disposed in the cavity and between the biasing element and the seal plate, and a second seal disposed in the cavity and between the biasing element and a radially extending wall of the housing. The biasing element is configured to bias the first seal against the seal plate and to bias the second seal against the radially extending wall of the housing.

Seal arrangement

A braking system for a vehicle includes a clutch. The clutch includes a rotational axis, a clutch housing, arranged to be rotationally fixed relative to the vehicle and sealed to an axle shaft end, a clutch carrier arranged to be rotationally fixed to a first drive portion of the axle shaft end, a clutch pack and a piston for compressing the clutch pack to brake the axle shaft end. The clutch pack includes a first plurality of clutch plates, rotationally fixed to the clutch housing, and a second plurality of clutch plates intermixed with the first plurality of clutch plates and rotationally fixed to the clutch carrier. The clutch may also include a plurality of springs disposed between individual clutch plates of the first plurality of clutch plates, or individual clutch plates of the second plurality of clutch plates.

A K0 clutch includes a housing, a piston, and an apply chamber. The housing includes an axial wall and a port extending radially outward from the axial wall. The piston includes a seal engaged with the axial wall. The piston is axially slidable relative to the axial wall. The apply chamber is disposed between the piston and the housing. The apply chamber is selectively fluidly communicable with the port based on a pressure in the apply chamber.

A clutch assembly includes a shaft, a seal plate supported by the shaft, and a cap connect to the shaft. The shaft includes a first end and a second end axially spaced from each other. The cap is disposed at the second end. The cap includes a base covering the second end, and a wall extending from the base towards the first end. The wall is configured to axially constrain the seal plate.

A method of assembling a modular hybrid transmission (MHT) is provided including (a) assembling an emotor clutch on a clutch shaft to form a clutch assembly, (b) press-fitting a bushing into a centering plate to form a centering assembly, (c) connecting the centering assembly to a torque converter, (d) assembling the torque converter to the clutch assembly with the bushing on an end of the clutch shaft, and (e) inserting the clutch assembly and the torque converter into a transmission housing while maintaining the centering of the clutch shaft to the transmission housing via the centering assembly connected to the torque converter. The assembled MHT is also provided which eliminates the needle bearing according to the prior art, avoiding the potential for damage during assembly.

A clutch assembly includes a shaft, a backing plate fixed to the shaft, a plurality of clutch plates, a hydraulic piston, and a balance dam. The hydraulic piston is sealed to the shaft and axially slidable on the shaft to clamp the plurality of clutch plates against the backing plate to close the clutch assembly. The balance dam is fixed to the shaft and disposed axially between the backing plate and the hydraulic piston. The balance dam has a cooling flow orifice and a cooling flow valve for adjusting cooling oil flow through the cooling flow orifice. In some example embodiments, the cooling flow valve is a reed valve with a displaceable steel plate fixed to the balance dam and preloaded against the balance dam to cover the cooling flow orifice.
