Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may monitor a set of time-frequency resources for one or more cell detection signals (CDS) associated with a pseudo-random sequence, where the pseudo-random sequence and the set of time-frequency resources are indicated by an output of a pseudo-random function (PRF) that is based on a timing parameter, a cell identifier (ID), and a shared key. Accordingly, the UE may communicate with a network entity via a cell associated with the cell ID based on receiving the one or more CDS. The UE may also exchange one or more messages with the network entity, and may perform a time calibration procedure based on the one or more messages and a delay threshold of the UE. The one or more messages may indicate an ID of the UE, a cryptographic number, a time interval, or a combination thereof.

Timing and synchronization techniques for secure networks

Techniques for determining power relaxation values are disclosed. The power relaxation values may be determined according to an ending resource block (RB) and a number of RBs in a contiguous allocation. In one aspect, the power relaxation values are arranged into regions based, at least in part, on transmission channel bandwidths and the distance from a protected adjacent channel. A user equipment (UE) can determine a power relaxation value for its current allocation using the ending RB index and contiguous RB length and can adjust its transmission power accordingly. Evolved NodeBs may estimate the power relaxation that a particular UE has selected in order to more accurately determine the transmit power available to the UE. Using the more accurate estimate of transmit power, the eNB may schedule the UE for uplink transmissions accordingly.

Disclosed is a method for authentication of a remote station by a management station using a secure element. In the method, the remote station receives an identity request from the secure element. The identity request includes a first challenge provided to the secure element by the management station. The remote station forwards an identity response to the secure element. The identity response includes a response to the first challenge that is signed by a key of the remote station, and the signed response to the first challenge is for use by the management station to authenticate the remote station.

Techniques for efficient signaling to and from a plurality of mobile stations are disclosed. In one embodiment, a subset of mobile stations may be allocated a portion of the shared resource with one or more individual access grants, another subset may be allocated a portion of the shared resource with a single common grant, and yet another subset may be allowed to use a portion of the shared resource without any grant. In another embodiment, an acknowledge and continue command is used to extend all or a subset of the previous grants without the need for additional requests and grants, and their associated overhead. In one embodiment, a traffic to pilot ratio (T/P) is used to allocate a portion of the shared resource, allowing a mobile station flexibility in selecting its transmission format based on T/P.

Method and apparatus for encrypting transmission traffic at separate protocol layers L1, L2, and L3 so that separate encryption elements can be assigned to separate types of transmission traffic, which allows the implementation of different levels of encryption according to service requirements. Encryption elements use variable value inputs, called crypto-syncs, along with semi-permanent encryption keys to protect from replay attacks from rogue mobile stations. Since crypto-sync values vary, a method for synchronizing crypto-syncs at the mobile station and base station is also presented.

Method and Apparatus for Processing Shared Sub-packets in a Communication System are disclosed. A communication system providing both voice and data services allows for a plurality of subscriber station to share a data sent in a unit of a forward traffic channel. To provide information required by the subscriber stations to determine that a unit of the forward traffic channel is shared, and to correctly decode the data, different control channel structures are described. Additionally, the control channel structures provides for more efficient signaling of code channel assignment.

Method and apparatus for processing shared sub-packets in a communication system

A dynamic shared forward link channel (or 'data' channel) is used to send multicast data to a group of wireless devices, e.g., using a common long code mask for the data channel. Reference power control (PC) bits are also sent on the data channel and used for signal quality estimation. A shared forward link control channel is used to send user-specific signaling to individual wireless devices, e.g., using time division multiplexing (TDM) and a unique long code mask for each wireless device. A shared forward link indicator channel is used to send reverse link (RL) PC bits to the wireless devices, e.g., using TDM. The data channel is jointly power controlled by all wireless devices receiving the data channel. The control and indicator channels are individually power controlled by each wireless device such that the signaling and RL PC bits sent on these channels for the wireless device are reliably received.

Dynamic shared forward link channel for a wireless communication system

Techniques for efficient allocation of channelization codes are disclosed. In one aspect, a dedicated data channel is partitioned into a primary channel and a secondary channel. The rate of the primary channel is a relatively low fixed rate. The rate of the secondary channel varies over time in accordance with the rate of the dedicated channel data. In another aspect, a channelization code indicator is transmitted in the primary channel to identify the secondary channel. In yet another aspect, more than one secondary channel may be deployed. Various other aspects are also presented. These aspects have the benefit of efficient code resource allocation, resulting in increased support for users/and or channels, as well as increased system capacity.

A remote station, for a wireless communication system, includes a receiver configured to receive on a first downlink a synchronization control channel on a first carrier frequency and on a second downlink a shared physical channel on a second carrier frequency different than the first carrier frequency. The shared physical channel includes a first physical shared channel having a unicast signal and a second physical shared channel having a multicast or broadcast signal, the unicast signal being multiplexed in time with the multicast or broadcast signal. The remote station includes a control processor configured to generate an acknowledgement signal on an uplink based on the unicast signal.

An apparatus and method provides for controlling communications from multiple base stations to a mobile station in a communication system. A mobile station transmitter transmits from the mobile station channel quality indicator data of a first base station. The data is covered with Walsh code assigned to the first base station. A base station receiver receives the transmission of the channel quality indicator data of the first base station. The mobile station transmitter punctures the transmission of the channel quality indicator data of the first base station with null channel quality indicator data, and covers the null channel quality data with Walsh code assigned to a second base station of the multiple base stations to indicate a desire to switch a source of transmission of traffic data from the first base station to the second base station.

Method and apparatus for controlling communications of data from multiple base stations to a mobile station in a communication system

Techniques for Walsh space assignment are disclosed. In one aspect, a list of Walsh functions is maintained in the base station and mobile stations. A Walsh space indicator is transmitted to indicate which of the Walsh functions on the list are to be used in communication. The Walsh space indicator is updated according to the dynamically varying transmit power available or the use of Walsh functions within the base station. Methods by which a mobile station can request Walsh space information are provided. In another aspect, a Walsh space indicator channel is continually broadcast for mobile stations to detect the Walsh space indicator therefrom. In yet another aspect, the Walsh space indicator is used to initialize convolutional encoders and decoders, to provide a mechanism for mitigating against errors introduced while receiving Walsh space indicators. Various other aspects are also presented.
