A power source for an implement used to perform a welding or cutting operation, the power source including an engine component including a generator and a rectifier electrically connected to the generator and adapted to convert alternating current provided by the generator to a direct current, the engine component being switchable between an on condition and an off condition; at least one battery, wherein the engine component and at least one battery are electrically connected to a chopper bus; and a controller in communication with the generator, chopper bus, operation chopper, and the charging switch; an auxiliary power converter including at least one of a DC to AC and a DC to DC converter, the auxiliary power converter being electrically connected to the operation chopper and the at least one battery.

Hybrid welding supply

In a welding power supply, a feedback circuit senses electrical signals from the power output studs and from remote welding sense leads. The feedback control circuit scales the electrical signals and converts the signals to binary numbers having magnitude bits and a polarity bit respectively. The binary numbers, representing the signals, are simultaneously shifted into a logic processor for calculation of a feedback signal based on the digitized input. The feedback signal is calculated based on the polarity of connectivity of the remote welding sense leads as represented by the binary numbers. The feedback signal is then fed into the power supply output controller for automatically adjusting the power output of the arc welder.

Provided are a method, computer-readable medium, and system for automatically determining a proper operational current input to an electric motor. In an exemplary embodiment, a method for determining the proper operational current input includes sending a test signal to an input of an electric motor. A response to the test signal is measured using an output of the electric motor. Based on the measured response, a position of a brush that is capable of conducting current through a commutator of the electric motor is determined. The electric motor is supplied with a first current input if the brush is in a first position and a second current input if the brush is in a second position.

A wire feeder including a motor driving a set of feed rolls to force a welding wire from a spool through a welding torch to a welding operation. The wire feeder has an input lead to be connected to the output lead of one of a plurality of remotely located power sources, each having a signal receiver for receiving transmitted signal with a code unique to one of the power sources. The receiver having an output for controlling a parameter or condition of the one power source in accordance with a received signal with the unique code. A transmitter on each of said plurality of power sources for transmitting on its output lead a coded signal specific to the power source. A signal receiver on said wire feeder to receive a unique code from the specific power source actually connected to the wire feeder and a circuit on the wire feeder for transmitting command signals from the wire feeder, which command signals each have the unique code specific to the power source connected to said wire feeder.
