Methods and apparatus for a Personal Digital Asset Manager are disclosed. One embodiment of the present invention is a miniature electronic device, which functions as a fully-powered personal computer, which stores digital files and content, and which communicates wirelessly with external input and output devices and a network such as the Internet. In one embodiment, the present invention may be carried in a pocket or purse, clipped on a belt or incorporated into a pair of glasses.

In one embodiment of the invention, an electronic device (), such as a handheld radio, is used to find a person who meets criteria specified by a user. In another embodiment, this electronic device () is programmed with information regarding the genetic attributes () of individuals. These individuals are matched by computing a correlation of the genetic attributes of two individuals (). The information regarding these genetic attributes are determined by testing a tissue or fluid sample. In yet another embodiment of the invention, once biological or genetic attributes () are determined, a perfume () may be manufactured which is based on a unique set of genetic attributes, and which may either fortify the sexual self-confidence and broadcast the attributes of the person who wears the perfume, or may be used to enhance the attractiveness of another person.

Matching system

The Satellite Communication System disclosed in the specification is a dynamic constellation (C) of satellites (S). The present invention is capable of offering continuous voice, data and video service to customers across the globe on the land, on the sea, or in the air. The preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a low Earth orbit satellite system that includes 40 spacecraft (S) traveling in each of 21 orbital planes at an altitude of 700 km (435 miles). This relatively large number of satellites employed by the preferred embodiment was selected to provide continuous coverage of the Earth's surface at a high minimum mask angle (1230a) of forty degrees. Each of the individual 840 spacecraft (S) functions as an independent sovereign switch of equal rank which knows the position of its neighbors, and independently handles traffic without ground control. The satellites (S) are capable of transporting calls to millions of customers using portable (P), mobile (M) and fixed (F) residential and business terminals, and gateways (G) to public phone networks. The constellation uses the 20 and 30 GHz frequency bands for communications between Earth and the constellation (C), and the 60 GHz band for communicating among the satellites (S). The present invention is designed to support in excess of 2,000,000 simultaneous connections, representing over 20,000,000 users at typical business usage levels, and over 350 billion minutes of use per year. Only a system such as the preferred embodiment, which utilizes 840 satellites at a preferred minimum mask angle of forty degrees, can accomplish these challenging objectives.

When a call is intercepted a bidirectional communication path is established between the caller and the intercept system wherein a digital announcement circuit transmits an instructional message to the caller soliciting the dialing of the desired on-premise switching system telephone extension number, and a DTMF receiver collects the dialed extension number digits. The digits are then outpulsed to the on-premises switching system and the call to the desired party is completed without the intervention of a switchboard attendant.

Methods for transmitting and receiving radiated energy (15a, 15b, 15c) from and to a satellite (12) which moves with respect to the Earth's surface are disclosed. The invention pertains to any satellite (12) which is not in an equatorial orbit at geosynchronous altitude. The present invention reduces hand-off overhead in systems that utilize satellite-fixed cells, augments frequency re-use, and enhances the communications and sensing capacity of the satellite. In accordance with the methods of the invention, satellite footprints (16a, 16b, 16c) are partitioned into linear spanning cells (18) and multiple linear segments (22). The linear spanning cells (18) resemble long strips that extend across an entire footprint (16a, 16b, 16c). Multiple linear segments (22) are smaller contiguous areas that lie within the linear spanning cells (18). The alignment of the linear spanning cells (18) across a footprint (16a, 16b, 16c) is determined by a correction angle .phi., which compensates for the changing relative motion of the Earth's surface at various latitudes.

Linear cell satellite system

The present invention comprises methods and apparatus for providing programming from both satellites (11) and local sources (L) using a single receiving antenna (32). In a preferred embodiment, beams (18) emanating from a geosynchronous satellite (11) are collected using the main lobe (36) of a home receiving antenna (32), while a rebroadcast signal (26) generated by an airplane (20) circling above the home (H) is simultaneously sensed using a side lobe (38) of the receiving antenna (32). The airplane (20) flies along a path (40) which is a closed loop so that it is always positioned in a region where the aircraft antenna (24) can supply signals (26) to the receiving terminal (28) using the side lobe (38). The present invention may be implemented using any form of airborne platform (20), whether it is manned or unmanned. A wide range of methods may be employed to deliberately enhance the sensitivity of the side lobe (38) of the receiving antenna (32). The invention allows immediate and inexpensive enhancement to existing geostationary broadcast services.
