A corrosion inhibiting composition is provided. The composition comprises an intrinsically conductive polymer, e.g. polyaniline or polypyrrole, blended in a binder material, preferably a non-thermoplastic matrix, the blend being capable of adhering to a metal surface to provide enhanced corrosion resistance to the metal. The blend provides corrosion resistance in a variety of corrosive environments such as acidic, alkaline, and salt environments. A method for protecting metal surfaces from corrosive attack by applying the corrosion inhibiting composition is provided, as well as two component corrosion inhibiting coatings, corrosion inhibited thin films of metal adhered to an intrinsically conducting polymer containing substrate, and corrosion inhibited metal bilayers.

Electroless deposition-catalyzing film-forming solutions comprising polyamic acid and noble metal, e.g. palladium complexed with ammonia, in an aprotic solvent, e.g. N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone with a surfactant. Such solutions are used to provide articles having a coating or patterned image of a electrolessly-depositable element such as copper, nickel and the like on high heat resistant substrates, e.g. metals, ceramics, glass, silicon, high heat polymers and thermoset polymers. In the methods of this invention a polyamic acid/noble metal solution is applied as a coating or patterned image to provide a coherent polyamic acid film which can be imidized, e.g. by heat treatment at 250.degree. C. or higher, providing a tough, adhesive polyimide film that can catalyze electroless deposition.

Radiation transmission control films comprising closely spaced agglomerates of small particles, e.g. in linear, side-by-side louvers, in a solid matrix where the agglomerates exhibit different radiation permeability than the matrix. Methods of making such films include magnetically aligning particles into louvers in an uncured matrix then curing the matrix to provide louvered film. Such films are useful to control the transmission of light, other electromagnetic radiation and particle radiation.

Molded articles comprising fiber reinforced polyether modified styrene polymer wherein the weight ratio of glass fiber to styrene polymer is in the range of about 55:45 to about 75:25. The molded articles are prepared by a transfer molding process in which glass fiber mat containing 1 to 5 weight percent of an unsaturated polyester binder is impregnated with styrene monomer mixture containing an unsaturated polyether and the mold is subjected to conditions which induce fast polymerization of the monomer mixture. The invention relates to a process for preparing terpolymer polyblends having high gloss and ductility in formed articles, wherein, rubber particles in an aqueous latex are reacted with an alkenyl aromatic, alkenyl nitrile and alkyl acrylate monomer formulation such that said rubber particles become grafted with at least a portion of said monomers while said monomers form a matrix terpolymer phase of said monomers followed by separating said matrix phase terpolymer and said grafted rubber particles from said latex as a terpolymer polyblend. The invention relates to an emulsion polymerization process for preparing polymeric polyblends having rubber phases with high levels of grafted monomers providing polyblends with superior extruded glass and toughness. Diene rubber particles in latices are grafted with a monomer formulation of alkenyl aromatic and alkenyl nitrile monomers having present about 1 to 30% by weight of a myrcene triunsaturated aliphatic C.sub.10 H.sub.16 hydrocarbon. The myrcene unexpectedly increases the graft efficiency of the alkenyl aromatic and alkenyl nitrile monomers substantially as a superstrate on the rubber substrate particles such that a polyblend of a matrix phase polymer of said monomers having said grafted rubber dispersed therein has superior toughness and gloss.
