Provided is an aqueous composition comprising latex polymer particles that comprise

Core-shell aqueous latex

A polymeric composition suitable for blown film applications comprising a) 80 to 99.5 percent by weight of a continuous polymeric phase comprising a polyolefin, and b) 0.5 to 20 percent by weight of polymeric particles having i) an average particle diameter of 0.85 to 20 &#x3bc;m; ii) a refractive index from 1.46 to 1.61; iii) an average particle hardness from 1.2367E+10 N/mto 8.4617E+10 N/m; and iv) at least 60% polymerized acrylic monomer units, is disclosed. The polymeric composition can be used to form blown film characterized by having a thickness in the range of from 5 to 350 &#x3bc;m, a modulus of elasticity in the range of from 5 to 133 MPa, a melt strength in the range of from 4 to 40 cN, an elongation at break in the range of from 100 to 1000%, a 45 degree gloss in the range of from 7 to 136 and a softness measured by human panel handfeel-ranking methodology, measured by ISO 8587 Sensory analysis that is higher than a film which does not contain the polymeric composition.

Enhanced tactile responsive and optically translucent film for packaging

A clear polymeric matte coating including from 10% to 65% by weight, based on the weight of the coating, of a first polymer having a calculated Tg of from &#x2212;60&#xb0; C. to 100&#xb0; C.; from 10% to 80% by weight, based on the weight of the coating, of a second particulate polymer having an average particle diameter of from 0.5 microns to 30 microns; and from 0.1% to 15% by weight, based on the weight of the coating, of an aminosilane is provided. Also provided is an aqueous polymeric coating composition form which the clear matte coating may be formed and a method for improving the matting efficiency of an emulsion polymer having a calculated Tg of from &#x2212;60&#xb0; C. to 150&#xb0; C. and an average particle diameter of from 0.5 microns to 30 microns in a coating.

Clear matte coating

A composition containing polymeric particles. The polymeric particles have an average particle diameter from 30 to 300 nm and a Vicker's scale hardness from 100 to 700 Kgf/mm. The composition also contains a film-forming polymer having Tno greater than 80&#xb0; C. The refractive index difference between the polymeric particles and the film-forming polymer is at least 0.04.

UV-reflecting compositions

A composition comprising multistage polymeric particles having an average particle diameter from 0.5 to 15 &#x3bc;m and a Vicker's scale hardness from 100 to 700 Kgf/mm; and a film-forming polymer having Tno greater than 80&#xb0; C. The refractive index difference measured from 400 nm to 800 nm between the polymeric particles and the film-forming polymer is no greater than 0.02 and the average refractive index difference measured from 800 nm to 2500 nm between the polymeric particles and the film-forming polymer is at least 0.04.

IR-reflecting compositions

A composition comprising polymeric particles having an average particle diameter from 0.5 to 30 &#x3bc;m and Vicker's scale hardness from 100 to 700 Kgf/mm. The composition also contains a film-forming polymer having Tno greater than 80&#xb0; C. The average refractive index difference measured from 400 nm to 1100 nm between the polymeric particles and the film-forming polymer is no greater than 0.04.

Composite material containing non-functional aromatic end group-containing polymer

Liquid rubbers that are ordinarily immiscible in liquid thermoset resins can be made miscible by the addition of at least one non-functional aromatic end-group to the polymer chains of such liquid rubber compositions. Such addition may be initiated by high-temperature peroxides in non-functional aromatic solvents. The liquid rubbers are found to improve the fracture toughness of cured thermoset resins while maintaining dimensional and heat resistance.

Processes for preparing tougheners for thermoset compositions

Processes for utilizing various emulsion polymerization procedures for preparing aqueous nanocomposite dispersions are disclosed. The disclosed processes include both in-situ polymerizations in the presence of at least partially exfoliated unmodified clays as well as admixtures of polymer dispersions with at least partially exfoliated unmodified clay dispersions. The disclosed nanocomposite dispersions are useful for preparing a variety of materials, such as coatings, adhesives, caulks, sealants, plastics additives, and thermoplastic resins. Processes for preparing polymer clay nanocomposite powders and use of these powders as plastic resin and plastics additives are also disclosed.
